The Assassin’s Creed franchise has been around for a long time, and it was inevitable that it would see some changes in the way it functions and plays. This change started from Origins, where the games became much more open and RPG-like, but Assassin’s Creed Infinity is an entirely new format. Now Ubisoft has confirmed that the game will be huge, but that comes with a drawback.
Assassin’s Creed Infinity is Ubisoft’s next big project with the franchise, taking it in the direction of other live service games such as Warzone and eFootball. The game will be completely online and have a virtual world of its own. It will also reportedly have some remakes of the classics, but details on that front are still unconfirmed.
Ubisoft has stated that this game will be “huge,” but it will not be free-to-play. Like the ones mentioned above, most live service games tend to be free-to-play, monetizing the extra content added as seasonal passes. The rumor going around was that Infinity too would be free-to-play; however, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has confirmed during a second-quarter earnings call that this is not the case.
It’s not going to be a free-to-play [game]. This game is going to have a lot of narrative elements in it. It’s going to be a very innovative game, but it will have what players already have in all the other Assassin’s Creed games, all the elements that they love that got them in right from the start. So it’s going to be a huge game. But with lots of elements that already exist in the games that we published in the past.
Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft CEO
With Guillemot’s updates, Ubisoft’s chief financial officer Frédérick Duguet described Infinity as being “at an early stage of development.”
Rumors have stated that Infinity will act as an online hub for various time periods and Assassin’s Creed experiences. It was also reported that it would be in a constant state of expansion, as more content would be added over time. Ubisoft has not confirmed this fact, but the live nature of the title suggests that we can expect new content to be periodically added to the game.
In a previous description of Assassin’s Creed Infinity, Ubisoft described it as,
A collaborative, cross-studio structure between Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft Quebec that will guide, grow, evolve, and define the overall future of Assassin’s Creed.

We don’t have much official information about Assassin’s Creed Infinity, and given that it is still in the early stages, fans of the franchise will have to wait a while before they get their first glimpse of the project.
