VTubers or virtual YouTubers have been popular as entertainers among the masses since the middle of 2010s. And what’s better than to have a closer look at one’s journey behind the scenes?
On Thursday, Kadokawa released a video on their channel, announcing that VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream will receive a TV anime adaptation.
The video features the main character Awayuki Kokorone, voiced by Ayane Sakura, in a mock livestream.
VTuber Legend is about Yuki Tanaka, who, as her alter ego, Awayuki Kokorone, tries to entertain her viewers but has very few subscribers. One day, she accidentally keeps her stream on, and viewers listen to all the crude jokes she cracks. Fearing her career is over, she becomes popular instead.
The anime series is based on Nana Nanato’s light novel series of the same name. Siokazunoko has illustrated the characters. Kadokawa Future publishes the chapters under their Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint.
As of now, six volumes have been released. J-Novel Club publishes the volumes in English, with the third to be released on January 23.
About VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream
VTuber Legend: How I Went Viral after Forgetting to Turn Off My Stream is a light novel series by Nana Nanato. Originally published on HameIn and Kakuyomu websites in 2020, it was acquired in 2021 by Fujimi Shobo and published under the Fujimi Fantasia Bunko imprint.
Yuki Tanaka works at Live-On, one of Japan’s top VTuber companies. As the gorgeous, polite Awayuki Kokorone, she delivers only the most ladylike content. One evening, Yuki thinks she’s ended her stream and her viewers hear all of her crude jokes watching Live-On’s video archives.
Clips of her drunken commentary go viral overnight. Yuki fears that this is the end of her career… until her manager reveals that everyone has been waiting for her and allows her to drink on-stream.
