As a mafia capo who has just gotten out of prison after 25 years, Dwight Manfredi is finding it extremely difficult to reconnect with his family. His daughter, Tina, in particular, feels like he betrayed and abandoned her, and so she doesn’t want anything to do with him.
In Episode 5, we find out that her attitude towards him is not unwarranted. What does Tina reveal to Dwight? What exactly did Nico do to her?
In Tulsa King Ep 5, Tina reveals to Dwight that while he was in prison, Nico molested her, leading her to hate her father even more. In response, Dwight kills Nico in front of Chickie and the other Invernizzi gang members.
We already knew that being in the mafia meant that Dwight couldn’t be a good father to Tina, despite how much he cared about her.
All this while, we assumed that the reason Tina was angry with him was that he chose the mafia over his family, leading to him going to prison for 25 years and leaving his daughter to fend for herself.
The last bit hits harder once Tina reveals that while he was absent, Nico, one of the top Invernizzi gang members, had molested her. Wanting to have nothing to do with the gang anymore, Tina begs Dwight not to harm Nico.
Tina’s pacifying doesn’t work, and Dwight immediately sees red, rushing to confront Pete about the same. Due to his condition, Pete has been hospitalized, but even this doesn’t stop Dwight from pulling him by his collar and roughing him up.
After Pete clarifies that he knows nothing about the situation, Dwight decides to take matters into his own hands, ignoring the mafia’s hierarchy. He forgets that he is no longer a valued, powerful member of the gang whose erratic actions are tolerated.
Nonetheless, an enraged Dwight assaults Nico in the most brutal way imaginable—burning and strangling him, then finally smashing his head in. (A big caution to everyone watching this scene!)
Chickie, who’s also in the room witnessing this, is all in shock. It’s obvious that despite Dwight’s rank being taken away, he still acts like someone who’s one of the top dogs. Killing Nico without sanction is just another example of this.
While this move will make him Chickie’s new enemy, it also proves how sincere Dwight was about making amends with Tina, which will hopefully repair their fractured relationship.
