Ryohei tries to catch up to the rest of the club in episode 7 of Tsurune: The Linking Shot titled “Unwavering Spirit.”

As he realizes how far behind he is compared to the rest of the club, Ryohei begins feeling insecure and hesitates to talk about it with the rest of the members. However, he realizes he has to return an arrow to Shu, leading to a house visit.

Shu exchanges a heart-to-heart conversation with Ryohei, and both come out if it is feeling better and releasing burdens they have been holding on to for too long.

The next episode will likely continue with the ikiai training, as they need to get even more in sync and get comfortable with the timing and breathing control of the practice. Right now, they need to prepare for nationals as it is.

Likely, Nikaido’s practice sessions will also get some screen time, as he was only shown in his part-time job in this episode. We may also see Masaki contact other schools to get an idea of all their competitors in the upcoming tournament.

3. Recap of Episode 7:

The club eats ramen together and uses this opportunity to practice their ikiai. They all need to get in sync to further their kyudo skills and move as a team, even outside the court.

Minato looks up videos of pros practicing perfect ikiai and moving in sync that they couldn’t even imagine. They all are hyped up and try to move in sync, but they seem to miss all their shots completely.

Masaki refuses to help them with more advice but tells them it is nothing more than trial and error. He tries to show them how to do it by taking a shot as an example and telling them to focus on his breathing.

Ryohei feels insecure about his kyudo skills and wants to practice much more than everyone else to reach the level he wants. He invests in buying some new equipment.

He visits Shu, finds him in the vast mansion, and plays with his sister until he makes his way to the guest room. He shows them what cola tastes like since his sister never had one.

He returns the arrows he borrowed during the tournament, and Shu gets a bit suspicious seeing him bonding with his sister so well. Nikaido runs into an old school friend on his part-time shift at the restaurant.

Shu takes them all out to the kyudo range in his home and lines up some shots with perfect form and composure as Ryohei admires him from the back. He also gets to try a shot with their bamboo bow, and Shu observes him.

He admires the intent and mindset he put into the shot and admits that he is jealous of Ryohei. He compares kyudo to cola and says that the experience over the years doesn’t matter.

Ryohei feels much better now and returns to the club with a new mindset; even the other club members notice it in his outgoing appearance. He is finally ready to take on nationals with a change of pace.

Tsurune is a light novel by Kotoko Ayano which was adapted into an anime series by Kyoto Animation in 2018. As of 2022, three volumes have been published under Kyoto Animation’s KA Esuma Bunko imprint.

The plot revolves around Minato, a high schooler who has grown up loving archery but developed a sudden target panic. Yet, he is recruited into an archery club in high school and along with his team and instructor finds the true meaning behind his passion.
