The tournament starts with a blast in episode 2 of Tsurune: The Linking Shot titled “All in the Mind.”

As the tournament begins, some team members seem a bit nervous, while others are cooler about it. Minato especially maintains a very calm façade and wants to continue shooting arrows.

They manage to snag their way into round 2 with a beautiful 16 shots on target, all shot with extraordinary grace and form and witnessed by a perfect audience of Shu’s sister. However, the tournament has just begun, and the outcome still needs to be determined.

Recap of Episode 2

The episode begins with the kyudo club meeting, and Manji requests to leave the regular line-up. To everyone’s shock, he is insecure about his skill considering his nervousness when taking the shot.

Kabashima is appointed as a substitute and bumped up to the starting spot. We see Manji practicing by himself as his twin brother expresses their admiration for Shu’s talent in the sport.

The two brothers continue practicing together, and Senji decides to stop quick drawing too. Shu reaches back home and catches up with his little sister. They have dinner together as she discusses her skipping piano class to come to watch the tournament.

Minato says his goodbyes and meets up with Seiya as they head to the tournament together. Everyone in the club does their morning routines and meets up at the venue, surrounded by all the other contestants.

There’s nothing worse than shooting on an empty stomach, as Masaki suggests that they all go out and eat now since they won’t have much time once it starts anyway. Kaito meets some familiar faces on the way; they’re just here to spectate.

They’re looking forward to seeing him shoot and the rest of the club pick up some food for the team. Shu’s sister has also made it to the field and is met by Ryohei and shown some accessible seats with a great view of the contest.

Ready to fight, they move on to the first round and prepare their bows and outfits. The tournament begins as the line-up rolls out on the platform and hears their introductions. Kazemai has a lot of eyes on it, considering its reputation.

The team knocks their arrows and takes the shot one by one, with some misses here and there, but their ace Minato lands an incredible bulls-eye. Much of the team manages to land their shot and maintain a high tempo.

Everyone respects their opponents as they clap regardless of the team taking the shot. Minato is the focus of everyone’s attention as he takes shot after attempt. Kazemai ends the round with 16 hits and moves on to the second round.

The collectors need to find one of Ryohei’s arrows and need a replacement. Minato asks Shu for an extra since they have almost the same height and arrow preference, and they wish him good luck in the tournament.

It ends with Nikaido running into Minato and attending the tournament with his eccentric team.
