The release of the bowstring echoes in everyone’s heart in episode 13 of Tsurune: The Linking Shot titled “Resounding Release.”

With the competition coming to an end, much-needed relaxation and celebration time has finally arrived for the Kazemai team as they prepare for the festival and the archery ceremony of which they are a part.

A traditional ceremony that wards off all bad luck and brings in good fortune is a pressure that the Kazemai team bears with pride and an easygoing nature as they perform their ceremonial duties in perfect sync and bring the festival to a perfect ending.

The tournament’s aftermath sets in as everyone begins catching up on school assignments, especially with the end of school break soon. However, Masaki reminds them of the upcoming festival, where they volunteer in helping to set it up.

A shrine’s ceremony is another opportunity for them to shoot the bow and also places a significant burden on them, considering the festival’s importance for the people in the village. The Kazemai team also runs into Shu and some of his teammates at the festival as everyone rares to continue playing.

Ryohei and Shu also bond over his little sister as they share the same sibling love. Minato and Seiya also climb up the stairs to the shrine as they continue talking about Shu’s way of kyudo and how far he’s come from the last time they battled.

Shu and Minato talk about the meigen ceremony, where they draw a bowstring without an arrow and believe that the sound of the release wards off evil and brings in good fortune. 

Nikaido and Otaguro begin brainstorming their strategy to recruit new people for the club and take advantage of this gathering at the festival. Eventually, nighttime sets in as they prepare for the ceremony, dress in the appropriate outfits, and don their robes.

The target stands at the shrine as Masaki chants the prayer, starting the archery ceremony. Everyone gathers their bows and performs a synchronized and careful drawing of the bow with a beautiful release accompanied by their calling out each release.

As they take their shots, each member remembers everything they went through up till this point and all the pain and suffering they had to power through to perfect their technique to this level. Thus they take their bows and end the ceremony spectacularly as the team gives their gratitude to Masa-san and brings the night to a close.

Tsurune is a light novel by Kotoko Ayano which was adapted into an anime series by Kyoto Animation in 2018. As of 2022, three volumes have been published under Kyoto Animation’s KA Esuma Bunko imprint.

The plot revolves around Minato, a high schooler who has grown up loving archery but developed a sudden target panic. Yet, he is recruited into an archery club in high school and along with his team and instructor finds the true meaning behind his passion.
