One Piece is currently exploring Wano Kuni in the anime and the manga with the latter in ACT II of Wano. Wano Kuni, based off of Japan, is the best arc post-time skip with the current story building up towards the battle against Kaido, one of the four emperors of the sea. 

One Piece recently revealed the birth of Momonosuke, the true Shogun of Wano and just how the previous Shogun Oden met his wife Toki.

Momo has quite a tragic past, with both his parents dying shortly after a coup, he was sent forward in time by Toki’s devil fruit ability in order for the royal bloodline to survive.

Along with two of his retainers, Momonosuke ran into the strawhat crew and asked for their help. Moved by Momonosuke’s tragic past, coupled with his alliance with Trafalgar Law, Luffy decided to help Momonosuke out. However, the recent chapters of One Piece revealed that Wano wasn’t such a terror-ridden country when Oden was Shogun.

Oden and Toki, Momo’s parents met during Oden’s journey with Whitebeard. Oden was sick of being stuck in a country that had cut itself off and wanted Whitebeard to take him on an exploration journey. Whitebeard wasn’t very willing, so he gave Oden a chance to prove himself through a challenge: Hold onto the ship’s chain for 3 days while the ship sails.

Oden took Whitebeard up on this challenge, however failed to fulfil this task as he noticed a woman in distress and let go of the chain to help her. The woman turned out to be none other than Toki, his future wife. Despite not being able to complete the task, Whitebeard felt that Oden’s actions were honourable and therefore he let Oden join his ranks to explore the world.
