The penultimate episode of True Detective: Night Country uncovers a barrage of secrets as officers Liz and Navarro go to any lengths to uncover the mystery behind the Tsalal murders.
The two officers learn from Otis Heiss that he and his team were attacked by a blizzard that seemed to have a mind of its own. Otis’ revelations confirm that something supernatural lurks in the caves, which may be connected to the spiral symbol that keeps appearing throughout the case.
Meanwhile, Kate McKittrick keeps pulling the strings and making every effort possible to cover up the murders and environmental damage caused by her mines. She has a deal with Tuttle United, plants a mole inside the police department, and does everything possible to stop Liz and Navarro from proceeding any further.
Hank is revealed to be the one who moved Annie K’s body from the cave to the crime scene under McKittrick’s orders. He also leaked information about Danvers and Navarro’s investigation to McKittrick, who hired him to kill Heiss before he could lead them to the cave.
However, Hank’s plans take a bad turn when he arrives at Danvers’ house to find Heise, Navarro, and Danvers. In a climactic sequence, Pete shoots and kills Hank after learning about his corruption.
