Troll Trailer: We’ve a New Scandinavian Monster in the House!

Netflix has released a new trailer for its upcoming monster film, Troll. The film follows a group of individuals who must rescue Oslo and stop its destruction in the hands of a recently awakened, dangerous troll.

The upcoming film is directed by Roar Uthaug, while the story has been penned by Espen Aukan, known for his earlier work in the Norwegian horror film, Vikingulven.

The film stars Ine Marie Wilmann as Nora, an unlucky paleontologist who has been roped in to save Oslo. The supporting cast includes Kim Falck, Mads Sjøgård Pettersen, Gard B. Eidsvold, Pål Anders Nordvi, Eric Vorenholt and Hugo Mikal Skår.

The new trailer for Troll offers a closer and more terrifying look at the titular mountain troll. The Norwegian monster seems to have a reputation for creating havoc. In the film, the troll is awakened in the mountains of Dovre.

After waking up, the monster goes on a path of horrific destruction, forcing the cynical government to seek a logical explanation behind his deeds. This insists the government to bring in Nora, who is expected to protect Oslo from the troll. Check out the trailer below –

Little has been revealed about the upcoming Scandinavian horror film yet. However, from what we’ve seen so far, the film seems to be carrying a message about climate change. The troll is seemingly disturbed by a man-made explosion, which shows the consequences of man’s interference with nature.

The film shares a likeness with iconic Kaiju titles, including Godzilla and King Kong. Perhaps, the real monster in the film is not the mountain troll, but something much deeper. Thrillers and adventure films carrying a social message are steadily gaining popularity. Troll might become a classic in this genre, if done right.

Unlike the much darker teaser that Netflix released back in June, the recently released Troll trailer also has its fair share of humor and light-heartedness. It also offers a new look into the otherwise ignored monster, who last captured our minds in the 2011 film Trollhunter.

Troll premieres on Netflix on December 1, 2022.
