In the Hopes of Spring chapter, after solving the door lock puzzle to enter the Ice King’s Palace, Mio and Zoe must solve another tricky puzzle. Using animal transformation powers, they must push an ice block into a green gate to unlock it.
If you’re having trouble solving this puzzle, follow our step-by-step guide to overcome the challenge.
1. How to solve the Ice Block Puzzle in Split Fiction?

In Split Fiction, after entering the Ice King’s palace door, you’ll encounter a grid-block puzzle. The objective here is straightforward: push the cube into the green gate to unlock the next path. However, the challenge lies in the cube’s movement, as it only moves in straight lines and doesn’t stop until it hits an obstacle.
To overcome this, Mio has to use her ape form to attack and push the cube forward, while Zoe can use her tree form to lift and hold certain tiles, creating barriers to stop the cube.
Start facing the direction opposite the way you entered the room (that is, face the purple door). This will be our North, so the green gate is to the east. Follow these steps to solve the puzzle quickly and efficiently:
- Push the cube all the way to the edge in the direction of the purple door (opposite the door you enter from).
- Raise the barrier to the west, in line with the block and push the block towards it. Then raise the barrier to the south in line with the block and push it there.
- Raise the barrier to the east, near the green door, in line with the cube. Push the block there and then raise the barrier south of the cube.
- Push the block towards the barrier and it should be in line with the green gate for you to put it into place to unlock it.
With the gateway smashed, Zoe and Mio’s path forward is now clear. Now that you’ve gained access to the Ice King’s lair, why not take a breather and appreciate the beauty of this fictional world?
