Megatron has been the one and only enemy the Autobots have faced since the beginning of the Transformers film series. But the trailer for the seventh instalment in the film franchise, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, has now introduced a new antagonist who will go up against the Autobots and the Maximals.
Unicorn is the new intergalactic force that threatens Earth’s very existence, with the trailer warning that he will consume “everything you care for.” But who is Unicorn? Or rather, what is he? And who will voice the new antagonist in the latest Transformers film? I’ll give you the lowdown on all of the above queries!
Marvel Comics covers the character’s origins, explaining that the character was the second half of the all-powerful cosmic entity named The One, whose two parts, Chaos & Order, split to make Unicorn & Primus, respectively. The two halves face each other as rivals until Unicorn’s defeat, though he returns in other Transformers stories.
Unicorn is a sentient planet-shaped being capable of changing into a robot form, just like the Transformers can. In another storyline, Unicorn corrupted Megatron into Galvetron and led him against the Autobots, but that’s not what Rise of the Beasts will feature.
Some of Unicorn’s abilities can be ascertained from the short mention of the character in the trailer. Apart from the power of interdimensional travel and consuming whole planets as depicted in the 2023 film’s first look, his abilities also extend to warping several realities and calculating a million possibilities.
On top of that, Unicorn’s robot form also possesses several different powers, including necromancy, empowering other beings, and shooting laser beams from his eyes. A formidable, if not unbeatable, opponent indeed!
Not only that, but he might also have some minions to help hasten his cause in the upcoming film. The Terrorcons are confirmed to appear in the 2023 film, so he might have some heavy backup, making Optimus Prime and his Maximals’ job a little more challenging. This movie is slowly turning out to be the best in the franchise if the stakes are to be believed.
Colman Domingo, who played Victor Strand in Fear the Walking Dead and also starred in Selma and Euphoria, will voice the new antagonist in the seventh Transformers film.
