With $29 million, Transformers set the record for the biggest single-day gross on the 4th of July holiday back in 2007, a record it still holds to this day. With $709 million in worldwide box office revenue, Transformers ranked fifth at the 2007 worldwide box office.
While some critics complained that certain aspects of the movie deviated from the original material, the reception was positive for its special effects, action scenes, and sound design. Additionally, the film was nominated for three Academy Awards, including Best Achievement in Visual Effects, Best Achievement in Sound Editing, and Best Achievement in Sound Mixing.
Now a generation that missed seeing Transformers on the big screen when it originally came out will get the chance to, and older audiences will have a second chance to see the film.
The Transformers movie is returning to theaters for a limited time to celebrate fifteen years of Transformers.
A special screening of Transformers will be held by Fathom Events in celebration of Transformers’ fifteen-year anniversary. On July 10 and July 14, select theaters across the country will hold Transformers screenings.
2007’s Transformers launched a highly-successful franchise. As director of four more sequels, Michael Bay snapped up the task of landing Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Transformers: Age of Extinction, and Transformers: The Last Knight.
In 2018, Bumblebee broke convention by opening in December instead of the franchise’s usual summer release date.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts will be released in 2023, and promotional material featuring Bumblebee and Optimus Primal is already available online. A teaser trailer could very well be released to coincide with Transformers’ fifteen-year anniversary.
Tickets for the 15th-anniversary screening are on sale here:
