The few Japanese mangas he had read while growing up were Dragon Ball, Slam Dunk, Akira, and Parasyte. He was able to buy a volume of Dragon Ball after pleading with his parents and he cherished this volume above all.

Being a male of Korean nationality, SIU joined the military when he was in university. It was there that he formulated most of Tower of God’s ideas. Being able to keep up with one’s dreams despite the physical exhaustion in the army is an incredible achievement.

While he was in the military, he came up with the story of a boy standing against impossibly huge odds.

SIU also revealed that being a professional mangaka or webtoon artist is a tough job with little to no breaks. However, the attention that Tower of God is receiving makes the hard work worth it.

Amongst the characters of Tower of God, SIU favors Khun, Rak, and Bam, although, as a creator, he loves all his created characters. The characters have been inspired by people from all walks of life.

From athletes to celebrities to personal acquaintances, SIU has collected bits of inspiration from them all.
