The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given all of us some of the most fascinating, evil, and complex supervillains! And if our superheroes look great, a large chunk of the credit goes to these worthy supervillains who make them look so.
But which is the strongest supervillain so far? I think we all know the answer to that, or do we? So why don’t you scroll and find out?
Here’s me listing down the top 15 strongest villains in the MCU. I’ll be talking about their powers, abilities, weapon of choice, and spirit that makes them so strong and invincible!
*Drum roll, please*
15 Abomination: The Incredible Hulk
Abomination, aka Emil Blonsky, is given the same super-soldier serum as Captain America, and his abilities are enhanced to a level where they almost match Captain America himself.
But besides that, he is also given the gamma radiation as that of the hulk, and it is this that makes him large and humongous! Abomination has superhuman strength, jump, endurance, durability and also has regenerative healing abilities to a great extent due to the super-soldier serum.
14 Taskmaster – Black Widow
The taskmaster was a worthy opponent to Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow. She is Dreykov’s daughter, Antonia. Dreykov weaponizes her, and unfortunately, here’s where lies her biggest strength.
With photographic reflexes, she can imitate any fighter’s style, and we see her imitate Captain America, Natasha, and Black Panther in Black Widow. A master martial artist and swordswoman, and markswoman, Taskmaster is adept with numerous weapons.
However, her primary weapons are a sword and a replica of Captain America’s shield.
13 Malekith – Thor: The Dark World
Malekith is the leader of the dark elves and is perhaps one of Thor’s lesser powerful adversaries.
Besides possessing superhuman abilities common to the dark elves, Malekith is also finitely immortal who lived for more than 5000 years. He was the creator of Aether that could transform any matter into dark matter. He created it from the Reality Stone.
After merging with the Aether, Malekith could manipulate matter, create energy blasts from his body and even matter from his body to aid him in combat. Besides this, he could manipulate his size, and all his pre-existing strengths multiplied after merging with Aether.
12 Aldrich Killian – Iron Man 3
Aldrick Killian, the real Mandarin, is perhaps one of the most vicious and cold villains on this list. Driven by ego and vengeance, this man was indeed a great match for Tony Stark’s powers.
I say Tony Stark because Aldrich did change him for the better. He made him realize how he shouldn’t take his money, resources, and love of his life, Pepper, for granted. Aldrich made Tony more humble.
His powers came from Extremis, and they include superhuman strength, speed, agility, and endurance. Beyond this, he also possesses regenerative healing and body temperature manipulation abilities.
11 Ronan – Guardians Of The Galaxy
Ronan is an immensely powerful supervillain even without the orb. Even before he possessed the Power Stone, he had superhuman strength, endurance, and agility. In addition, he was a master tactician and a villain who could command his entire army!
He is the master of wielding hammers, and his signature weapon is the Cosmi-Rod! He also flaunts a Kree armor and the Accuser Warship.
After getting hold of the Power Stone, his abilities instantly multiply, and he grows so powerful that he almost takes down all the Guardians!
10 Ultron – Avengers: Age Of Ultron
The machine, the conscience who almost tore the Earth’s mightiest heroes apart like cotton candy!
Ultron’s core is an artificially intelligent conscience that makes him immensely intelligent. His powers include ultra strength, endurance, flight, telekinesis, and energy blasts. Ultron is practically adept in any form of combat since he has access to all of them and is also a genius engineer who built thousands like himself.
9 Red Skull – Captain America: The First Avenger
Captain America’s very first adversary Red Skull was a master military strategist, combatant and possessed immense abilities that came from a formula developed for him.
His abilities include enhanced strength, speed, stamina, reflexes, and even intelligence. In addition, his advanced regeneration abilities help him heal faster and hence make him pretty similar to Captain America.
Above and beyond this, he became truly immortal when he became the guard-keeper of the soul stone. But then again, what’s the point of it if he can’t use it for world domination for eternity.
8 Agatha Harkness – WandaVision
Agatha Harkness aka The Salem Witch is one of the most recent supervillains that debuted in the MCU. Not only are her powers immensely strong and diverse, but being a witch, deception and manipulation are so innate that she got us all fooled in the first half of WandaVision.
She is a master sorceress who excels in using dark magic, and after reading The Darkhold book, her powers multiplied. Besides being capable of flight and telekinesis, she can manipulate energy, mystify people and other creatures, and resist telepathic attempts.
But her biggest superpower is energy absorption, wherein she can take in all the energy of other witches and kill them by merely sucking the life out of them. She could also convert Scarlet’s chaos magic and turn it into dark magic for a considerable amount of time in the final battle.
Of course, Wanda, aka The Scarlet Witch, won in the end because, after all, her powers exceed even that of the supreme sorcerers.
7 Loki
Now, there there! There can be a debate after the Loki show that he may or may not be a villain, but the havoc he’s wreaked when he was an all-out villain, is insane! I mean, the god of mischief deserves some credit there, now doesn’t he?
Loki’s best power doesn’t lie in his physical ability but in his mischievous and insanely intelligent mind. He learned magic from his other, cast illusions, projections of himself, and even enchant people. His combat skills and reflexes are indeed commendable, even if they fall short before his brother Thor!
Besides these, he has a sharp mind and is a master tactician thanks to his qualities of deception. His weapons include knives, a short sword, and a spear in different scenarios!
6 Hela – Thor: Ragnarok
Hela is the goddess of death and Odin’s daughter. I think I should just stop there because that in itself says how powerful she is. Know what? She also destroyed Thor’s hammer Mjolnir into a million little pieces. I know!
She attained mastery over swordsmanship, combat forms and was a great leader! Her powers include manifesting and manipulating weapons and metallic structures. Essentially, anything can be her weapon. All she needs to do is think of it.
If this wasn’t enough, she can also bring back people from the dead and control them. A little trick she calls necromancy. She was much more powerful than Thor and his army and if not for Surtur.
5 Surtur
Surtur is the fire demon who practically can live as long as he brings Ragnarok to Asgard. Though he’s been defeated multiple times by Odin and Thor with Eternal Flame, Surtur’s power is so enormous that he even defeated and killed Hela!
His fire physiology allows him to turn things to ask by merely his presence in a place. Surtur is a being above humans, and even most of the Asgardians possess immense strength and endurance. He can project blasts of fire from his sword and can manipulate fire in any way he pleases!
4 Ebony Maw
Ebony Maw is perhaps one of the most underrated MCU villains. He came in with Thanos and thus was overshadowed by him. But as a supervillain, Ebony Maw’s powers were immensely effective against many avengers.
He possessed the abilities of flight, telekinesis and was a great sorcerer. His telekinetic abilities sure did leave me dumbfounded when with just a flick of fingers, he could cut through giant rocks, send off Iron Man flying and control numerous objects all at once.
Besides his powers, he was also a pilot who could fly the Q ship but sadly died after Spiderman and Iron Man smartly distract him and send him into Outer Space where there’s no oxygen.
3 Ego – Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
Ego is a celestial being who is practically immortal. He doesn’t possess a body but has a glowing blue core. Over thousands of millennia, he built a planet around himself and his core to protect it.
He can manipulate energy, matter and possesses cosmic power. In addition, he can manipulate biological matter, and that’s how he created the avatar we see in Guardians Of The Galaxy 2. But, beyond all this, his most significant power is his ability to control and hypnotize the minds of humans and other living creatures.
His only shortcoming is that his power is connected to his planet since that’s where his consciousness exists. Outside his planet, his powers are pretty meager, and he is almost as good as any other human.
2 Dormammu – Dr. Strange
Dormammu is the ruler of the dark dimension and can cause an apocalypse at his will. I guess his only weakness would be bargaining and negotiation in a time loop.
He is immortal and can manipulate the dark dimension in any way he wants to. Over and above this, he can also grant powers to those who worship him.
Technically, his powers are boundless and so enormous that he is the only villain on this list who still lives and is not killed by his adversary. However, the reason why he’s on the second rank is because he wasn’t an immediate threat to the universe and because he’s got low patience in time loops.
1 Thanos – Avengers: Infinity War | End Game
The “mad titan” Thanos is the strongest and deadliest villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s one of the only few known to successfully command all the infinity stones and harness their power to warp space-time, i.e., the reality itself. Moreover, he’s an excellent leader, good with both armed and unarmed combat.
I mean he literally snapped half of the living creatures in the universe out of existence because he’s apparently obsessed with balance.
What makes Thanos so formidable isn’t merely his superpowers or the stones. It’s his spirit. He was a survivor who, in his twisted sense, granted all living creatures mercy and restored balance. It is why he succeeded in his efforts, and even all the superheroes together couldn’t stop him the first time.
The second time around, the only reason he failed was that he made it personal. He turned his quest into a mere personal vendetta. If not for that, there’s a chance he would’ve won a second time as well.
