When it comes to love you can definitely rely on Hulu to be your forever faithful in bringing you the best of cinematic romance from pop culture.
The sheer number of successful book adaptations on the platform is proof enough of its managers having an innate sense of respect for the tender and unsaid, two rather important aspects of love.
Here is a list of best romance films on the platform for your reference. It is short and filled with jewels.

1Sense and Sensibility
Let us begin with a book adaptation. The 1995 film Sense and Sensibility is adapted from the Jane Austen novel of the same name. Oscar winner Ang Lee directed this adaptation while Emma Thompson has written the script.
Other stars include the brilliant and beautiful Kate Winslet, an intense Alan Rickman and the lovable Hugh Grant.
The movie, not unlike the book concerns the Dashwood sisters and their sudden descent into non-stupendous wealth followed by, of course, the romance.
2XX/XY
Yes the chromosomal Xs and Y. This 2002 movie follows Sam (Maya Stange) and Thea (Kathleen Robertson), two college students who have an awkward night of passion with animator Coles (Mark Ruffalo).
The night is followed by a fallout of the decision while the audience get to relate to how the understanding of passion changes from young adulthood and adulthood.
3Drinking Buddies
This list ain’t complete without a millennial romantic indie drama. Drinking Buddies is an Anna Kendrick film at its mumblecore best. It stars some truly excellent and improv-friendly actors including Olivia Wilde, Jake Johnson, and Ron Livingston.
It’s a simple story about relationships, jealousy and lots of great craft beer. Kate (Wilde) and Luke (Johnson) are flirty coworkers at a craft brewery who decide to go on a joint trip with their significant others Chris (Livingston) and Jill (Kendrick).
4AWOL
Here is another indie romance for you – small, authentic, affecting. AWOL follows Joey (Lola Kirke) and Rayna (Breeda Wool), two young women from a quaint Pennsylvania town who meet at a local carnival and quickly fall for each other.
But circumstances threaten to crush their romance before it can even begin.
AWOL then goes on to explore the fact that sometimes what you want, and what your environment is able to allow you to have, are two very different things.
5Under the Tuscan Sun
Based on Frances Myers’ 1996 memoir of the same name, this 2003 film has an important lesson: life and romance are a lot easier when you can afford to buy an Italian villa.
Diane Lane stars as Myers, whose life turns upside down after her husband knocks up a much younger woman.
Frances decides to treat herself to a Tuscany vacation and while there decides to restarts her life in Italy. Having bought a villa there, she even meets some new gentlemen suitors.
6No Strings Attached
The 2011 film directed by Ivan Reitman follows a careerist doctor Emma (Natalie Portman) and happy-go-lucky but a forever-failure in romance Adam (Ashton Kutcher).
They are two former acquaintances from childhood who fall into a random hookup one night as adults.
After the successful sexual encounter, they decide to have a “no strings attached” sexual relationship. All is well until feelings get in the way.
7Juliet, Naked
Another book adaptation, this time it is from a Nicholas Hornby book of the same name. The book and the film are center around the concept that sometimes meeting your heroes could end up in you losing your girl to them. Yeah, you read that right.
Duncan Thomson (Chris O’Dowd) is a music fan obsessed with musician Tucker Crowe (Ethan Hawke) who hasn’t released new material in over two and a half decades.
Duncan’s girlfriend Annie Platt (Rose Byrne) doesn’t fully appreciate Duncan’s obsession but comes to appreciate Tucker’s music. What follows is an unlikely email correspondence!
8My Best Friend’s Wedding
Julia Roberts is at her goofiest in this story of two best friends who made a pact to marry each other if they couldn’t find anyone else till they’re 28. (No that’s not too young. Some of us have parents who think 30 is when you should be happy to get pregnant and not running anxious pregnancy tests after a one night stand).
927 Dresses
Ever the pushover? Well, you can find love too! At least that’s what this irresistible Katherine Heigl rom-com, has to say. A perpetual bridesmaid whose sister is marrying the man of her dreams finds love in an unlikely place.
The one scene she finally finds her happy place and happy person (drunk at a bar singing and dancing to an old pop song from your teens) always gets my innards churning.
10Step Up
Watch this dance musical not just for Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan as a stunning couple.
But also for the beauty of the love at its core that transcends all of society’s segregations, including those of classical and street dances. Fusion is my first love, and so is this film!
11If Beale Street Could Talk
Yet another beautiful adaptation this time by the brilliant James Baldwin. The novel was itself praised for its exquisite beauty while the film was made by Moonlight director Barry Jenkins.
The story follows a young black couple whose lives are torn apart by a false criminal accusation in early 1970s Harlem. It is tragic and heart breaking, you have been warned.
12What Men Want
This Taraji P. Henson film is loosely based on the 2000 film What Women Want.
As its inspiration, this story is about a woman who gains the ability to hear men’s thoughts (you heard that right, now go binge!) and uses it to her professional and personal advantage.
13Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
We end this list with an all time favourite romance gothic for you to remember that breakup you never could overcome. In this fantasy, a couple, Clementine (Kate Winslet) and Joel (Jim Carrey), undergo a medical procedure to erase their memories of each other post-breakup.
They not only forget about each other, but they also lose the parts of themselves that grew and evolved during the relationship.
This shattering work of art will teach you that no matter how much grief you after a breakup, you can’t just will away the memory of the love and the lover.
