One Piece is one of the anime that I grew up watching, and until it ends, I shall continue to do so. Maybe it’s my attachment to the series, or it’s just something about the OP universe that always engages me to contemplate the characters.
Even if I assume maybe one of the characters is the strongest, Eiichiro Oda always comes up with a new chapter and a quirky power-up.
Though I am very sure about who’s the top dog in One Piece, let’s see if you agree with me.
15 Borsalino “Kizaru”
Kizaru is the easily the most relatable guy on this list and probably the only one who doesn’t involve himself in the Pirate vs. Marine drama.
He is simply doing his job while still retaining his laid-back personality. Honestly, if Borsalino actually took his work seriously, Kizaru would have ranked higher, but well, Kizaru being Kizaru, isn’t really passionate or has any firm conviction, unlike the other Marines.
But he’s still extremely powerful, and the Pika Pika no Mi Devil Fruit makes it even worse for his enemies. Kizaru can create and control light by shooting laser beams and also blind his opponents.
14 Sakaziku “Akainu”
Everyone is already speculating that Akainu will one day become an unbeatable character. Ever since he took over the Fleet Admiral’s position, things began changing.
His reputation has skyrocketed, and you can now say that he is kinda infamous even among the “good” marines.
Akainu is an authoritarian figure in the Marines as he is a firm believer in the idea of “absolute justice.” His Devil Fruit Magu Magu no Mi is a Logia type that can manipulate, control, and transform into magma on a disastrous level.
13 Monkey D. Garp aka “Hero of the Marines”
Garp the Fist. Hero of the Marines. Garp the Demon.
You can call him by many names, but I only love him for one. Monkey D. Garp is Luffy’s grandfather and the Marine vice admiral. Like Luffy, Garp suffers from narcolepsy as well. Due to the God Valley incident, Garp is now known as the Hero of the Navy.
He was amongst the people who have fought on par against Gol D. Roger. He doesn’t need the powers of the Devil Fruit; even without it, Garp is unimaginably overpowered.
12 Charlotte Linlin aka “Big Mom”
Praise the anime Lords that this woman is finally dead. Phew!
Big Mom is almost like a vampire; her Soru Soru no Mi Devil Fruit can deplete her opponent’s life span within seconds and transfer it wherever she desires. Big Mom’s daily munchies include her crewmen, so I wouldn’t want to mess with this lady.
11 Kaido of the Beasts
I know…I know. I do have an article on Shanks being stronger than Kaido but that’s just old news. Wano arc has really given us an exclusive look at why Kaido is called “the strongest creature.”
If being Big Mom’s partner in crime wasn’t enough, Kaido raised the power scale-up high. No kidding, presumably no one can fight on par with him in a one-on-one fight.
He has an army of 500 artificial Devil Fruit users. His Devil Fruit Uo Uo no Mi is a Mythical Zoan type which is rarer than a Logia type fruit.
It enables him to transform into a hybrid and a complete version of Azure Dragon while power-boosting his abilities. In these forms, he can control various elements and conjure Flame Clouds.
10 Kozuki Oden
Besides Luffy, no one sought freedom more than Kozuki Oden. His kind-heartedness never dulled his blade. Instead, it made him even stronger.
From being a commander of the Whitebeard Pirates to a former member of the Roger Pirates, Oden would’ve defeated Kaido if not for the trickery. Oden’s legacy far surpasses his monstrous strength, making him one of the strongest characters in One Piece.
9 The Gorosei or Five Elders
Until recently, The Five Elders were laughed off as senile old fools on a power trip that included slavery, assassinations, destroying nations, and much more.
But what came as a surprise is that these old fools are immortal beings with awakened Mythical Zoan Type Devil Fruits powers, each based on different creatures of Japanese mythology. However, it’s not their strength that makes them one of the strongest characters; it’s their immortality.
8 “Dark King” Silvers Rayleigh
Rayleigh is one of the top bosses in One Piece and is known as the ‘Right Hand of the Pirate King.’ He is a shounen protagonist’s old mentor, so you can just tell this guy is a legend. Rayleigh also knows the secret of One Piece which automatically makes him a VIP in the OP world.
Garp has even warned his men in the past not to confront Rayleigh and Whitebeard simultaneously. Silvers single-handedly killed sea kings while swimming across the ocean and casually fought on par with Kizaru.
I’m pretty sure he’s much more than what he seems because he didn’t want to attract attention and has always kept a low profile.
7 Edward Newgate aka “Whitebeard”
Whitebeard was not only strong because of his Yonko status, but because ‘Whitebeard doesn’t have friends, he’s got Family.’
He is literally the Godfather in One Piece. Whitebeard ate the Gura Gura no Mi Devil Fruit, which enabled him to create localized earthquakes with his punches.
He has mastered all types of Haki that makes him a formidable enemy. My respect for this man knows no bounds; he lived a legend and died a legend.
6 Monkey D. Luffy
The title of the fifth emperor of the sea didn’t hold much meaning until Luffy defeated Kaido in Wano. After he awakened his Mythical Zoan Type Human-Human Fruit, Luffy was blessed with the most ridiculous power in the One Piece universe.
With his new form, Gear 5, Luffy has proven his title of an emperor and has become powerful enough to manhandle an admiral and one of the Five Elders simultaneously.
It is only a matter of time until Luffy gets a grasp on his newfound abilities. I still get goosebumps when I think about how he managed to trigger the entire Marines despite being a dying old man with holes in his body.
5 Marshall D. Teach aka “Blackbeard”
Despite being introduced in the latter half of the series, the baddest of all Supernovas, Blackbeard has quickly gained the spot for ‘characters you cannot defeat without background music.’ He has already become one of the four emperors.
He is special enough to use two Devil Fruits — Gura Gura no Mi and Yami Yami no Mi. Yami Yami no Mi can allow its user to control gravity, nullify other Devil Fruit abilities by touching the opponent, and absorb any sort of attack.
4 “Red-Haired” Shanks
Shanks is by no means an ordinary man. At this point, his influence and authority over the entire One Piece universe go hand-in-hand with the number of mysteries surrounding him.
I mean Shanks obviously started the trope of anime characters who were shounen protagonists and got isekai-ed into a different universe to help its MC.
Red-haired Shanks is a legend that can still shake up the world. Instead of talking about his strength, let’s just rewatch this clip of Shanks LITERALLY stopping a war between Marines and Pirates just from his presence.
3 Rocks D. Xebec
Before Gol D. Roger even entered the scene, it was Rocks D. Xebec who ruled the seas. He is described as an ambitious and vile person who wouldn’t hesitate to murder people irrespective of their status.
Although we don’t have much information about him, he held a tremendous amount of power. His subordinates were all the influential people we know today, like Shiki, Big Mom, Kaido, and even Whitebeard.
2 Gol D. Roger aka “The Pirate King”
Gol D. Roger’s rank was pretty predictable, as he is the only character to claim the One Piece after centuries.
And he is the Pirate King who gave rise to the entire pirate looting fiasco, so he has to be on the second rank as he was the last boss in present times.
1 Imu
Imu has a weapon to erase an entire island nation from existence within seconds; he has command over the immortals, aka The Elders, the highest authorities of the World Government. Imu has ruled over the entire world for who knows how many centuries.
Such characters should never be taken lightly in any manner. The scariest thing is that Imu never lifted a finger to do all these atrocities, but when he did, it was to play with the garden butterflies.
Honorary Mention: Monkey D. Dragon aka “World’s Worst Criminal”
Monkey D. Dragon is our main character’s dad and the World’s worst criminal. He had to be on this list. His title as the leader of the revolutionary army is justified as he is powerful.
