Fist of the North Star is set on Earth, which is a wasteland after the nuclear war. On the barren land, the strong prey on the weak. The only way to survive is through martial arts. 

Two schools Hokuto and Nanto, compete for dominance. Kenshiro is the successor of the Hokuto school. He travels around the post-apocalyptic world in search of his fiancée Yuria, who was kidnapped by his rival. He faces new people and adventures during his journey.

The classmates he used to study with have now been reduced to crooked existences, and he, along with some of his friends and the school nurse, have to navigate this new forsaken reality and avoid being bitten by the zombies.

Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress follows the story of a young engineer, Ikoma, who invents an Anti-Kabane weapon that can be used in killing the monster Kabane. But in the process of making it, he gets infected and now lives as a Kabaneri, a Human-Kabane hybrid, as he can resist the virus. 

He travels the world overrun with the Kabane along with another Kabaneri and the rest of the survivors of his station, in a fortified train (hayajirō) known as Kōtetsujō or the iron fortress, in search of other habitable stations and the resources for survival.

Hibiki, a highly accomplished parkour athlete whose exceptional skills have earned him the team’s ace, is one of these tracers. He keeps his distance from his comrades due to his hypersensitivity to sound. 

This leads him to follow the voice of a woman singing and ultimately engages him in a meeting with Uta, who saved him from drowning when he fell into the water from the tower while searching for the voice. They try to overcome the obstacles and find the mysteries of their world as the story unfolds.
