Top 10 One Piece Anime Scenes 

While anime was merely a form of entertainment, the world was taken by surprise when One Piece debuted in 1999. The very joy and the inspirational scenes that the anime provided us still cause ripples in the world of otakus. Spanning over a thousand episodes, this anime has become a favorite for anyone who has come across it. 

And even with these many episodes, there were a few that hit so hard that it left a huge impact on the hearts of all anime lovers. Here is a list of Top 10 One Piece anime Scenes.

10. “What Kind of Fool Would Ever Plan to die”

This was one of the most iconic dialogues said by Brook in the Whole Cake Island Arc. His mission to sneak into Big Mom’s stronghold and get a glimpse of the poneglyph had led him to a confrontation with one of the Four Emperors ruling over the New World, Big Mom herself. 

Despite all odds being against him, he stands his ground and decides to fight her with all his might. Upon Big Mom’s harsh spites demanding him to give up, he tells her “What kind of fool would ever plan to die”, strengthening his own resolve and showing the Straw Hat’s undying determination to overcome any obstacles that may come their way.

One scene to date that gives us goosebumps is the episode in which after saving Luffy from a Sea King, and losing an arm in the process, Shanks and his crew set out for sea again. Here Luffy strengthens his dream of becoming The King of Pirates by shouting it out to the crew who are leaving. 

Although Shanks is hesitant about the idea of Luffy becoming a pirate, he goes on to give him his straw hat which was passed onto him from Gold D Roger and asks him to return it once he becomes a great pirate. This promise can be seen, being kept by Luffy as he sails the seas and gets stronger with his crew. 

8. Kuma Making all Straw Hats Disappear

No scene could replace the horror everyone went through as they saw Kuma hitting all the Straw Hats and making them disappear into nothingness in the last episode of the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. The crew who had surpassed a lot of trials being beaten by a single individual was heartbreaking, both for the anime lovers and for Luffy.  

It later came to be known that he was merely helping them by saving them from being captured by the other marines. He was secretly a member of the Revolutionary Army and hence a friend of Monkey D Dragon who was Luffy‘s father. He not only saved them from the Marines but also facilitated a means for the Straw hats to grow stronger.   

7. Zoro Getting Slashed by Mihawk

In the Baratie Arc, Zoro immediately recognizes the person standing Infront of him as Dracule Mihawk, one of the Seven Warlords of the Sea and the World’s Greatest Swordsman. Zoro challenges him to a duel and soon finds himself defeated and almost on death’s door. He realizes how weak he is and hence stands up and screams his iconic promise to Luffy of never losing again until he becomes the world’s greatest swordsman. 

He then asked Mihawk to slash him across his chest, which almost killed him. This scene as short as it was made the foundation of Zoro’s relationship with Luffy and his undying loyalty to protect the Future King of the Pirates, by becoming the World’s Greatest Swordsman. 

6. Nami’s Plea for Help

Nami had lived as Arlong’s cartographer in exchange for him not destroying the village she grew up in. She had lived under constant pain in the memories of Arlong killing her adoptive mother, Bellemere. She wanted to collect enough money to free herself and the village. But all that ended when Arlong and his crew destroyed her savings, hence leading her to live life as a slave again. 

Betrayed and in the final hells of despair she stabbed herself across the Arlong tattoo on her, wanting to free herself of these shackles. Just in time, the Straw hats made their entry, and she pleaded with Luffy to help her. He places his Straw hat on her head and goes on to fight Arlong and his crew. This became one of the most emotional and powerful scenes of the whole anime gaining recognition from fans across the world.   

5. Merry’s Death

After all that the Straw hats had gone through, the Going Merry had become an essential part of their crew. The end of the very ship that had sailed them across the seas had a much greater impact on fans all across the world. Essentially saving the Straw hats in escaping from Ennies Lobby, even though the ship was itself at death doors, it wished for a final adventure with its crew.  

Franky refers to it as Klabautermann, an incarnation of a ship’s spirit, which manifests when it’s truly loved and cared for. Finally realizing that she can’t sail anymore, Luffy with tears rolling down set the ship ablaze so that the ship wouldn’t have to endure the loneliness of the ocean floor. 

4. Zoro’s Nothing Happened

A character that gained as much recognition as the MC of the anime was Roronoa Zoro. His promise to never lose again and his utter devotion to help Luffy become the next King of the Pirates was something all anime lovers admired. But the moment that brought absolute respect for him in our minds was undeniably the moment when we witnessed the green-haired swordsman almost give up his life for his captain by taking on all the pain and suffering that Luffy had amassed in the last fight. 

Kuma came at the end of the Thriller Bark arc to take Luffy’s head, but Zoro stood in front and retaliated. He realized he had no way to defeat Kuma, so he selflessly decided to give up his life in exchange for Luffy as he knew that Luffy was someone who would become the Pirate King. 

3. Robin Says, “I Want To Live!!

In the Enies Lobby Arc, Nico Robin asks Luffy and the others to go back as they will never be able to protect her from her perusers and she doesn’t trust them enough because of her past. But Luffy burns down the World Government flag and hence declares war on the world government. Thus, implying that he was ready to fight the world for his Nakama.  

Owing to Luffy’s words Robin screams out that she wants to live. This scene not only made us, the viewers cry but also showed us the lengths to which Luffy was going to go to protect his friends. It breathed life into the hearts of those who had lost trust in friendship. 

2. Akainu Killing Ace

When Luffy cries, we cry. There is no argument against that. The same must be said for this scene where Ace gives up his life to save Luffy. Luffy who sees his brother die before his very eyes falls into a state of trance filled with despair and regret of not being able to save him. 

Akainu had realized the danger Luffy could be in after seeing his Conqueror’s Haki take out most of the people in Marineford. In an attempt to kill him, he consequently takes Ace’s life as he shields Luffy from the attack. This scene not only is emotional but also provides Luffy with the resolve to grow stronger so that he doesn’t have to watch the people he values die before him.

Seeing Luffy finally attain Gear 5 and realizing that it grants the user the ability of Sun God Nika was a jaw-dropping moment for all otakus. His fight against Kaido had led him to awaken the true power of Gomu Gomu no Mi fruit to unlock the power of being able to fight freely the way the user wants. With this power, Luffy finally defeats Kaido, one of the Four Emperors of the Sea.  

Luffy’s transformation into Joyboy and the change in his physique and fighting style were truly a wonderful sight to behold.
