Ever since the manga ended, I don’t know whether to be upset that there will be no more Haikyu or not getting enough details about how my boys had character growth.
Post-time skip, everyone has become a monster, especially the power levels of setters have skyrocketed.
The setter position is crucial in the game as they are responsible for making decisions that can either make or break the game if the team’s setter is a skilled player in challenging matches, the chances of winning become closer.
It’s a given that the characters need to be overpowered to pull it off, which leads me to the question, ‘Who might be the number 1 setter now after the crazy power shift?’
I’m pretty sure I’m not the only person thinking about this, so I thought, why not make a list of top 10 setters in Haikyu post time skip.
10 Kenma Kozume
If only if it were not for his lack of stamina, Kenma would have been ranked further on this list. Kenma is highly intelligent and executes his steps with great precision.
He comes up with these tedious, meticulous plans to completely break his opponents by observing their tiniest details while assessing their strengths and weaknesses.
Because of his strategies, Kenma is known as the brain of Nekoma. Since he is always aware of his surroundings in court, he holds superior control over his ball and uses every given opportunity for a dump shot.
9 Michiru Usuri
Don’t be fooled by Usuri’s gentle mannerism; he is one of those types who appear to be sweet and gentle on the outside but manipulative and shady on the inside.
Usuri is a supportive and encouraging person, but it’s limited to his team; once he enters the field, he becomes manipulative and plays mind games with his opponents.
To play mind games, one needs always to think a step ahead, and Usuri is famous for that; he often poses weakly serves, but they are a scam created especially to bait people while he slowly breaks his targets.
In short, he’s a sadist who enjoys the thrill of driving his opponents to the edge.
8 Kenjiro Shirabu
Despite being a first-year, Kouhai Shirabu wouldn’t hesitate to voice out his opinions and get overtly pissed about things if they do not go his way. He can be extremely hot-headed and aggravated, but he’s quick to compose himself.
Shirabu provides a sense of security to his teammates; even if they mess up a little, Shirabu covers it up by giving high sets while utilizing his wing spiker’s strength.
7 Itaru Shiramine
You may or may not remember Shiramine due to his lack of screen time, but he is the captain and setter for Sarukawa Tech High.
They appeared in season 4 in the Cat vs. Monkey episode. He appeared to be very calm and collected. He is also good at receiving and digging.
6 Aikichi Suwa
Suwa was born to be a leader; he very encouraging and reliable. Instead of fussing about the lost points, he is seen keeping his calm and encouraging his team to focus on points they could potentially win.
Even if he is in a pinch, Suwa is level-headed, and this quality often comes in handy. He is proficient in receiving, setting, and especially blocking; he could block Asahi’s spikes. Suwa also has an excellent jump floater serve.
5 Tsukasa Iizuna
Although Tsukasa doesn’t have much screen time, whatever bits and pieces of information revealed about him indicate that Tsukasa is a skilled player, he is shown to be very hardworking.
Tsukasa puts in 100% effort in his game, even if he is injured. Komori has mentioned that Tsukasa won the best setter award Junior Olympics cup and post time skip he plays for the Division 1 V. League team.
4 Keiji Akaashi
Akaashi is like a messiah that saves Fukurodani Academy from Bokuto’s mood swings; he always backs Bokuto up and revives him from his emo-mode. He uses his analytical skills to make split-second decisions that change the game 180.
Although his receiving maybe a bit sloppy, Akaashi is a well-balanced player with a wide range of serves and quick sets. Later on, Akaashi also did a jump serve while playing against Nekoma.
3 Toru Oikawa
Oikawa is called the Great King, and there wouldn’t be any other title to describe him better. Oikawa is considered the perfect setter as he is said to bring out his team’s strength and potential of his spikers.
Due to his superior intelligence, he quickly catches on to his opponents’ weaknesses and uses them to his advantage. Oikawa’s perceptive skills enable him to plant the ball’s trajectory and predict its position as well.
And his magnificent serves; you exactly know what I’m talking about. They are not mere serves; Oikawa literally smacks the ball into oblivion.
He charges with so much power that his opponents can hardly catch up. Post-time skip Oikawa has grown phenomenally; he is now a part of Argentina’s national team.
2 Atsumu Miya
It was obvious Atsumu would be on this list. Have you seen his gameplay? He deserves to be at the top. Atsumu even won the Best Server award in middle school and Interhigh.
It baffles me how Atsumu can hit the ball correctly every single time. His first step is godlike, and with the top-tier anime quality, I can almost hear holy music in the background.
Atsumu is like a versatile weapon, whether its jump serves or jump float; he is very flexible with his approach. And just to prove my point, this man pulled off Freak Quick spontaneously without even practicing. If that isn’t MVP behavior, then I don’t know what is.
1 Tobio Kageyama
Raise your hand if you thought Kageyama would make it to the number 1 spot. I am sure everyone is as proud of our boy as I am. Some people grow by hard work, and others grow by raw talent; Kageyama holds a middle ground and proves to be the prodigy who will find once in a lifetime.
Post-time skip, his skills amplified, and he is compensating for all his weaknesses.
Earlier, he couldn’t understand what it means to be a setter, but now he depends more on his spikers and utilizes their true potential instead of forcing them to match his technique.
Being a true genius, he has a multitude of overwhelming techniques that is impossible to imagine, even for his teammates like King’s Toss and Freak Quick that he created with Hinata.
He can pull off his extraordinary techniques because of his pinpoint accuracy, and the manga Kageyama has just gone ballistic with his already existing excellence.
