Top 10 Goofy Anime Protagonists: Ranked

Anime has always been home to the goofiest of characters who somehow find a place in our hearts. In intense shounen anime with serious plots, it is sometimes these goofy characters that provide us viewers with comical relief, so their existence is undoubtedly crucial to the anime.

Since they are pretty important characters in an anime, there is a surplus of them. Out of the most popular shonen, seinen, shojo, and josei anime, let’s find out the 10 most goofy protagonists.

10. Hanako Honda

Asobi Asobase is probably the goofiest anime out there. Out of the main trio in the anime, Hanako is definitely the goofiest. Why do you ask? Everything about her is just funny. Her general mannerisms, how she tries to fit in to become a popular girl, her butler Maeda-san, and the friends she made at school.

Asobi Asobase revolves around the girls playing various games in the clubroom. Hanako brings the most unhinged games to their table and makes the viewers cry out of laughter. Of course, their games do end, leaving one or more members feeling humiliated, but that’s part of the fun.

9. Meliodas: Seven Deadly Sins

Meliodas is the leader of the Seven Deadly Sins, the strongest order of Holy Knights in the Kingdom of Liones. Despite being a powerful and aggressive warrior in the past, he is now a calm and funny person with a very peculiar speech pattern.

Meliodas, being the calm, goofy, and pervy person that he is, always keeps the mood bright and cheerful. He and Ban made a great comedic duo in the anime. One shouldn’t forget that besides his short stature and comical tendencies, he is a demon at the core who has slaughtered several humans.

8. Nozaki Umetarou: Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-Kun

Nozaki is a shoujo manga artist of a very underrated anime: Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun. His goofiness comes from how dense he is. When a girl from his class, Sakura, confesses to him, he fails to perceive it as a confession of love and accepts her adoration as how an author would.

Following this any hints dropped by Sakura would always be interpreted wrong. The irony in this is the fact that Nozaki is a Shoujo manga author who often uses Shoujo manga as a reference in his own life, yet he can’t take a hint. Another aspect of his goofiness is his work ethic as an author, which is just really odd and funny. Anyone who is looking for a school comedy anime is strongly urged to try this anime out.

7. Osamu Dazai: Bungou Stray Dogs

While this character isn’t exactly the protagonist of BSD, no discussion of goofy characters can be done without including him. Besides, he is an important main character anyway. In very simple words, Dazai is a freak whose dream is to commit double suicide with a beautiful woman.

Well, he is a very OP character in the anime with a very useful ability making him a very resourceful person in the Armed Detective Agency. However, he generally behaves like a child, trying to have fun wherever he goes by manipulating people and situations for comedic effect. He and his partner Kunikida make an amazing comedic duo.

6. Aqua: Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku Wo!

In anime, the goofy characters are all at two ends of the spectrum when it comes to intellect. There are the highly intellectual yet twisted characters who are goofy and the stupid characters who are funny just by being themselves. Unfortunately, Aqua is at the lower end of that spectrum.

Aqua is always doing one out of two things: It’s either displaying her party tricks or enraging Kazuma by doing something stupid that jeopardizes the party. She may not always be useful, but she always proves herself to be useful in the most crucial times. Most of all, she is a funny and adorable person (until she opens her mouth) who gives color to the show.

5. Koro Sensei: Assasination Classroom

Koro Sensei is the bizarre-looking alien-like creature that the students of 3 E were assigned to kill. Besides being a national threat, possessing mach speed, destructive power, and superior intellect, he has a soft corner for children and is a great teacher.

A huge part of Koro sensei’s goofiness stems from the fact that his gentle and kind mannerisms, appreciation for cute things, comedic tendencies, and overall humanity betray the horrendous and inhumane appearance. The fact that class 3E’s assassination target found his place in the young hearts shows how much of a pure soul he possesses.

4. Gojo Satoru: Jujutsu Kaisen

This man, who most likely doesn’t need much of an introduction, would also definitely find himself in many other Top 10 lists, like those for the strongest characters or the hottest male characters. Gojo Satoru is the most powerful Jujutsu Soccerrer and the Itadori’s teacher in Jujutsu Kaisen.

Gojo is much like Dazai in the sense that they both love to fool around despite holding huge amounts of power and responsibility. What makes Gojo more appreciable is the fact that he can choose to act in whatever way he likes to, and there is no one to put him in place since he has immense amounts of strength at his disposal. Does Gojo even have any faults? He is the strongest person there is, with a stunning physical appearance and even a funny and bright personality.

3. Sakata Gintoki: Gintama

Gintama is probably the funniest anime out there, and the person who contributes the most to the comedy aspect of this anime is Gintoki himself. While his jokes may be a bit controversial or dark, they are the perfect kind of jokes for an adult audience.

Sakata Gintoki is a retired samurai in his late twenties and currently a freelancer. He takes up any kind of odd jobs for money, along with his sidekicks. Part of the reason why Gintoki is so goofy is the fact that despite his age, he and his companions act immensely childish.

2. Saitama: One Punch Man

Saitama is undoubtedly the most ridiculously overpowered anime character of all time. Any foe that he faces is defeated with just a punch, regardless of how powerful they are. This fact remains so true in this anime that it’s almost comical.

Saitama always appears to be aloof. He always fights with a disinterested expression and ends fights quickly with a punch, but he can suddenly become serious when he remembers that he’s late for a supermarket sale? Now, that’s a man who has his priorities sorted out.

1. Hoshino Anzu: Romantic Killer

Anzu is the probably the goofiest anime character there is. She is an anti-heroine-type protagonist who broke through the typical Shounen anime stereotype. When a mysterious wizard confiscates her 3 great desires: chocolate, video games, and her cat to put her in the dating market forcibly, she vows never to fall in love or be in a relationship.

What makes her goofy is how she desperately tries not to fall in love or have men fall for her during the “doki-doki” instances that the wizard creates for her. Some common antics of hers are to dress weirdly or make ugly faces purposely to make men disinterested. Special attention has to be given to her dialogues and her top-notch voice acting done by Rie Takahashi which enhances the comedy in the anime. Romantic Killer is a must-watch anime for any typical comedy anime lover.
