Every anime has that one character who appears cold. Often, these characters have some kind of dark past, which makes them shut themselves off from people, but at the core, they are good people. Conversely, some characters are cold and rotten to the core, yet people are attracted to them.
Since anime has a surplus of bright personality characters who are always kept in the spotlight, isn’t it about time for us to shine some light on these cold-hearted badasses? Here are the top 10 cold anime characters.
10 Light Yagami: Death Note
Light Yagami used to be a regular old high school boy… until he picked up a notebook that could kill a person just by writing their name on it. His decision to use the notebook to kill criminals in order to better the world turned him into a cold-hearted criminal.
The Death Note anime features Light devising his evil schemes with a level head and evil smile which is one of his biggest charms that make him attractive as a character.
9 Fushiguro Toji: Jujutsu Kaisen
Fushiguro Toji is the father of Megumi from Jujutsu Kaisen. He is a former member of the Zeinin family and a deadly assassin who’s also known as the “Sorcerer Killer”. It was when Toji defeated Gojo in the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen that people realized the true strength of a man with Heavenly Restriction.
What makes Toji so badass is the fact that he takes on really powerful jujutsu sorcerers despite not having an ounce of cursed energy and yet manages to kill them in the most gruesome ways.
8 Wakatashi Ushijima: Haikyuu!
Ushijima is the captain of the volleyball team at Shiratorizawa High School. He is ranked as one of the Top 3 aces in the country. Ushijima is a cool and stoic person who often wears an angry expression which generally makes him unapproachable to people normally.
Although he is socially awkward and doesn’t really have the intent to be all that friendly with others, he is really passionate about volleyball and is really confident in his abilities, which makes him a really likable character.
7 Kibutsuji Muzan: Demon Slayer
Muzan is the main antagonist of the anime Demon Slayer. He has fierce red eyes with pupils that resemble that of a snake’s and pale white skin. His quest to attain true immortality turned him into a ruthless demon who killed countless humans for self-gain and spawned several demons who harmed humans. For this reason, Tanjiro has sworn to slay Muzan in order to avenge his family.
Muzan is currently the strongest character in Demon Slayer, yet he lives in hiding, cowering in the fear of death. Muzan has a comical resemblance to Michael Jackson, which is a common anime meme joke that one may have come across.
6 Aki Hayakawa: Chainsaw Man
Aki is a Public Safety Devil Hunter who works in Tokyo Special Division 4 under Makima. He was assigned to supervise Denji and Power. Although he is really reluctant to look after Denji because of how barbaric he is, he takes Makima’s orders as she is one person that Aki truly respects.
Aki is a really cold-looking person who joined as a Devil Hunter to avenge the death of his family, who was murdered by a demon. Despite his appearances, he does warm up to people and he is really good at taking care of people.
5 Ray: Promised Neverland
Ray is unique as he gives the impression that he doesn’t care much about others, but deep down, despite the stoic look that he gives, he tries to protect those close to him. Ray proved to be a huge asset to all the kids when they tried to escape from the facility.
His above-average IQ has saved him multiple times, and no matter how dangerous the situation seems, he tries to look out for his friends.
4 Mash Burnedead: Mashle
Mash is the main character of Mashe: Magic and Muscles. He is a boy born with no magical powers, but he works to build his body to compensate for his lack of magic. As a result, Mash becomes so unbelievably powerful that he can pull off unimaginable moves with his physical power under the name of magic.
Mash always appears to be disconnected. He shows a dull face until he looks at cream puffs (which is one thing that he’s crazy about). At a glance, although he looks indifferent to everything around him, he is really a caring person who risks his all to fight those who threaten to harm his friends.
3 Madara Uchiha
Madara Uchiha was said to be one of the strongest members of the Uchiha clan and also a genius as a shinobi. He was the first Uchiha to unlock the Mangegkyo sharingan and the Rinnegan.
Madara used to be a kind and compassionate man who loved his clan and his younger brother. However, after several tragedies passed, Madara changed entirely as a person and became a ruthless murderer who kept seeking more and more power. After his reincarnation, he was truly a badass since none of the current-era shinobi could hold a candle to his strength.
2 Todoroki Shoto: My Hero Academia
Todoroki used to be the typical cold-hearted Shounen character with a lot of fangirls and an inflated ego until he got humbled by his rival. His cold personality stems from his deep-rooted trauma and dark past. Todoroki has several distinguishable features, like dual-tone hair, a scar on his eye, and heterochromia.
Although Shoto was initially a really cold person, his interactions with Midoriya changed him for the better, and he slowly started opening up to his peers while actively trying to fix all of the bad qualities that he had unknowingly developed.
1 Sasuke Uchiha
Sasuke is a shinobi of the Hidden Leaf village who is also Naruto’s rival. He always has a very cold and uninterested expression and usually avoids any kind of friendly exchange with his friends. Despite all of this, he has many girls fawning around him due to his looks and mysterious vibe.
Although Sasuke is a recluse, he warms up a little to Naruto in the first season of the series, and he starts becoming more of a team fighter, which is what makes him a really likable character until the end of the first season… when he decides to abandon the Hidden Leaf.
