See is a 2019 series with a fascinating genre. It’s almost like a blend of Game of Thrones with nordic mythology in a dystopian universe. The show starring Jason Mamoa has built a niche of its own, and fans have loved how the story shaped up in Season 2.
Like any mythological show, the show has had many characters, and each of those characters was as unique as the premise. This post lists the top 10 characters from the show. So, let’s jump in.
10 Lord Harlan
Let’s kick off the list with Lord Harlan. Introduced in Season 2, he’s one of those characters who nobody wants around in the series but everyone outside has fun watching. A cunning man, he’s the ruler of Pennsa and always seems to be bothering people.
While he has some resemblance to Littlefinger from Game of Thrones, it is not possible to take him as seriously, considering that the damage he does is much lesser.
9 Jerlamarel
Jerlamarel has been with the show since Season 1 and his arc has seen a lot of ups and downs. He was born a slave, rose through circles, served the Queen, and later became the ruler of his kingdom for the sighted.
What hooked me to this character was the mystery and enigma surrounding him. While it was frustrating at times, not knowing who he was and where he came from, we see it unraveling by the end of Season 1 and the beginning of Season 2. It is safe to say that the payoff to the mystery was good.
8 Queen Kane
Queen Kane is one of the most significant characters in the show. She is the ruler of the Payan Kingdom and heads politics in the society that still has electricity. It is perhaps quite difficult not to draw a parallel between this show and GoT, but she is like Cersei when it comes to her actions, although she completely misses the aura that the Lannister carried.
She killed off the entire Parliament to retain her power, murdered anyone who spoke about the sense of sight, and destroyed the Payan Village. Her arc looked interesting at the beginning of Season 2, but by the end, her character didn’t offer much.
7 Kofun
Kofun is Haniwa’s twin and, like her, can see too. However, he is more restrained when compared to Haniwa and knows that he doesn’t want to exploit his knowledge to create weapons. Unfortunately, with this restraint also comes naivety that hinders him.
6 Maghra
Maghra is the twins’ mother who can hear secrets and sense truth. Married to Baba Voss, she is the head of the Alkenny tribe alongside the protagonist and plays the classic mother you’ll see in most dystopian genre films.
She is protective of her kids and family. Due to this, she doesn’t understand Paris, who believes in letting the children explore the world and make their mark on it.
5 Haniwa
Haniwa is Kofun’s twin and is a rebellion at heart. What Kofun lacks in character, she compensates for. She is smart, always ready to fight against all odds, and can be pretty calculative. She believes in creating weapons because she is more aware of the world than Kofun is.
4 Paris
Paris is perhaps the wisest character in the show. We see her guide Baba Voss, among other things, but her methods reflect witchcraft practices. She can talk to birds, hears the future in her sleep, and is like a wall that supports Baba Voss.
However, one thing that does bother me about the character is that in an effort to portray her as wise and more level-headed, the impact of the character on the screen is a little lesser. It is almost underwhelming but only for a few moments.
3 Tamacti Jun
Tamacti Jun is the head of the Queen’s army and one of the characters you just can’t take your eyes off of. While we all know him as the brutal and merciless general who massacres the innocent, what I love about him is this resigned aura he exudes.
It’s almost like he’s resigned to the inevitable fact that he has to be the person he is, even if he doesn’t want to. In fact, we see in Season 2 how the man transforms into someone who feels guilt and remorse for everything he’s done.
2 Edo Voss
I wouldn’t have fallen in love with this vicious character if not for Dave Bautista. Even if you want to hate him, you can’t because of the larger-than-life persona that he brings to the screen. He’s introduced only in Season 2 as the General of the Trivantian army, and despite the limited time he’s been on the screen, he’s created a massive impact.
1 Baba Voss
Baba Voss is the protagonist and the best character from See. Leader of the Alkenny tribe, and Maghra’s husband, he is the guardian of the twins and can go to any lengths to protect them from the world.
We see the protagonist as a man with numerous shades and emotions. He’s strong, agile, and a fierce warrior. However, in his heart, he’s a protector who just wants to live a simple life with his family. This dichotomy separates him from the rest of the characters and makes him stand out.
