The anime One Piece is now a global phenomenon known for its captivating battles and mind-blowing plot. Of course, being a Shounen anime, it is home to a number of captivating battles.
As the story keeps getting more intense with the increasing number of episodes, the number of intense fights keeps increasing as well. So, let’s stay on track and discover the 10 best battles in One Piece.
10 Luffy vs Sanji
This fight is quite the emotional one as it is mostly one-sided, with Sanji beating up Luffy. Sanji unleashed the deadliest of moves on Luffy and insulted Luffy and his dream, too, all with the intent of protecting him from Big Mom.
Sanji wanted to hurt Luffy so badly that they would leave him alone, in which way he could indirectly protect them. The truth is Sanji was hurting just as much, and when Luffy brought this up and said that he would wait at that spot without eating, Sanji burst into tears. This was surely one of the most emotional battles in the anime.
9 Kaido vs The Scabbards
The nine Red Scabbards had been waiting 20 years to take revenge against Kaido for Oden, and as expected from One Piece, this fight didn’t fail to disappoint in the least. All the Scabbards with unity managed to damage Kaido a little bit. This in itself is a huge feat, as he is popularly known as the world’s strongest monster.
Kaido, however, found their attacks to be weaker than that of Odin’s. While they did follow up their “Paradise Totsuka” attack, which managed to weaken Kaido a little bit, it was still insufficient to defeat Kaido, which resulted in their loss. The greatness of this battle comes from Kaido’s overwhelming strength making the battle all the more exciting.
8 Whitebeard vs The Marines
This battle might as well be one of the most important battles in One Piece which later came to be known as The Summit War of Marineford. This was the battle at the end of which Whitebeard had confirmed the existence of the One Piece which had a significant impact on the story
As Portgas.D Ace had been imprisoned at Marine Headquarters, Whitebeard and some ally pirates had come to his aid to break him out. As expected, Whitebeard didn’t go down so easily against the Marines, as he and the other pirates managed to bring down the Marines’ forces by a lot. Unfortunately, this came at the cost of the lives of Whitebeard and Portgasa.D Ace.
7 Zoro vs Mr.1
This was one of the fights where Zoro truly surpassed himself. As he launches his attacks on Mr.1, he finds out that he is unable to damage the body made of steel, which puts Zoro in quite a bind. As Zoro is completely overwhelmed with Mr.1’s techniques, he thinks back on what his master had taught him.
When Zoro finally grasped what his master had tried to teach him, he was able to find a way out and swiftly cut through Mr.1’s hard steel, making him the victor of the battle.
6 Luffy Vs Doflamingo
One of the Seven War Lords of the Sea, Doflamingo, was quite the adversary for Luffy. Especially since Law was getting beaten to a pulp by Doflamingo. As Doflamingo was about to land the death blow on Doflamingo, Luffy intercepted it with his foot.
After shaking off Luffy’s block, Doflamingo lunges in for another attack where both of them use their Haoshoku Haki thereby destroying the entire region around them. As Luffy figures out Doflamingo’s Gear 4, he completely dominated the fight by using his own gear, thereby winning the battle.
5 Luffy vs Crocodile
Luffy vs Crocodile was a truly interesting fight, as Crocodile was almost indestructible with his Logia-type defense that made him turn into sand while taking physical attacks. It was this ability of his and his superior intellect that justifies his title as the “Warlord of the Sea”.
As Luffy realizes that Crocodile’s body solidifies on contact with liquid, Luffy uses this to his advantage: he uses blood as a liquid that would prevent Crocodile’s body from turning into sand and hence defeats him.
4 Luffy vs Lucci
There’s nothing more exhilarating than a battle between old enemies who are dead set on being stronger than the other. Luffy’s first encounter with Rob Lucci takes place in episode 302, which ends in Lucci’s overwhelming defeat. However, this was not the end of their battle as they met again in episode 1100, which was one of the most anticipated battles in the whole One Piece community.
The intricate details, exceptional animation, and breathtaking fight scenes by Toei animations made episode 1100 one of the highest-rated One Piece episodes on IMDb. Both Luffy and Lucci were bitter enemies from the get-go; however, Luffy was much stronger than Lucci. Even so, Lucci could hold his own, and the battle between the two turned out to be extremely intense and intriguing. The multiple transformations, plot twists, and anticipation made this episode go down in anime history as one of the most well-written and well-animated episodes ever.
3 Luffy vs Charlotte Katakuri
The battle against Katakuri was a long and tedious one and lasted around 21 episodes, ending in Luffy’s victory. Although Luffy was greatly outmatched against Katakuri, and was knocked out multiple times, he managed to get back up and see this fight through until the end. Katakuri’s haki can help him see the future a few seconds ahead, which gave him an edge over battle as he could predict all of Luffy’s moves. Moreover, his devil fruit (The Mochi Mochi fruit) gives him the power to freely manipulate mochi and use that to his advantage.

2 Luffy vs Usopp
The duel between Luffy and Usopp delves into the emotional aspects of One Piece, leaving its viewers teary-eyed but, at the same time, comforted. Although Usopp managed to outsmart Luffy on more than one occasion, he still had to face the bitter taste of defeat as Luffy managed to endure everything and fight back using every ounce of resilience he had. Even though the battle was a tough one, Luffy realized what it meant to be a leader, and the burden it carries.
In the end, Luffy made the decision to let go of his beloved ship, despite his victory against Usopp, who had challenged him in the first place. Luffy had fought against many foes; however, fighting against a friend was something that scarred him mentally. Usopp was like a brother to Luffy, and although they jumped into small arguments and disputes, the battle over The Going Merry left both parties wounded emotionally. Luffy was extremely devastated as he had to kick Usopp out of his tightly knit crew and let go of his beloved ship, but as the leader of his crew, it was his job to carry this burden.
1 Luffy vs Kaido
Luffy’s victory in Wano is unparalleled in his journey so far. It wasn’t just a personal triumph but a monumental event in the world of One-Piece history, with top-tier animation and insane haki power-ups. Despite facing many setbacks, Luffy’s victory against The King of Beasts, Kaido, was a well-deserved one. Not only did it encompass the thrill of a life-or-death battle, but the animators in Toei animations did a beautiful job of making the fight as lively as possible.
Kaido’s power scaling was extremely high, which isn’t a surprise considering how Kaido could defeat Kozuki Oden, the leader of The Nine Red Scabbards. One of the reasons Luffy won this brutal battle was because he managed to tap into the full potential of his devil fruit, completely transforming him and exponentially increasing his offensive capabilities. This fight is rated to be the most exhilarating fight in the history of One Piece and will continue to be the most jaw-dropping fights in the anime community.
