Yuuya Niyodo is an idol that belongs to the idol duo ZINGS. He’s well-off as an idol; however, unlike other idols, his sole purpose for doing his job is his paycheck. Hence, he lacks the motivation to put effort into his job, as he’s fine doing the bare minimum.

When the ghost of a former idol, Asahi Mogami, sees him, she gets enraged seeing his lack of care for his job, and decides to take over his body to improve his performance. While doing this, she also tries to develop his passion for being an idol.

Wonder Egg Priority is an original fantasy anime about a girl named Ai Ooto who picks up a mysterious egg at an arcade. However, after picking up the egg, her world is turned upside down as she now has to fight monsters in her dreams which have turned into a reality.

As she fights against monsters along with other girls who have also picked up similar eggs, she finds out what it is like to have friends. This story is deeply seated in concepts of trauma and mental health, which makes it quite similar to Oshi no Ko.

IDOLiSH7 is an anime based on a video game of the same name. It follows a group of young men all of whom are aspiring idols, who gather at Takanashi Productions to become idols. All of them have very different personalities but one common point that brings them all together is their endless potential as idols and their passion for the profession.

Like Oshi no Ko, this anime emphasizes the entertainment industry’s dark sides and makes it apparent that not everyone can survive being an idol. In the anime we get to see the IDOLiSH7 boys struggle to make it big.

7. Kaguya Sama: Love is War

“Whoever confesses first, loses” is the entirety of the concept this anime runs on. It may sound simple, but, it has driven this anime to be one of the most popular anime out there. Shinomiya Kaguya and Miyuki Shirogane are both intellectuals who form the student body at Shuuchin Academy. Although everyone thinks they’re the perfect couple, the two arrogant apex predators refuse to confess to the other.

The story follows the both of them playing brain games on each other to try and make the other confess. Although this series may not sound like it resembles Oshi no Ko in the least, it’s worth knowing that this manga is one of the biggest masterpieces made by Akasaka Aka, who is also the author of Oshi no Ko. Furthermore, both anime have psychological themes.

In a world where humans were conducting countless experiments on AI, they came to the realization that AI could only be 100% efficient if they were given only a single task to devote their lives to. This was when the first autonomous AI, Vivy, was given the task of making all humans happy with her songs.

However, one day, an AI called Matsumoto comes from 100 years in the future with the goal of stopping the great war between humans and AI. He joins forces with Vivy in order to stop this war. Both Oshi no Ko and Vivy have main characters who are idols, that exert a major influence on other characters in the series.

The story follows Satoru Fujinoma, a 29-year-old adult who is gifted with the ability to foresee certain events, giving him a feeling of Deja Vu that helps him prevent disastrous events, although in doing so, he puts himself in harm’s way. He named this phenomenon ‘Revival’.

Things take a turn for the worse when his mother gets murdered, and he realizes that her murder was tied to a certain case that happened in his childhood. To prevent this from happening, he has to prevent the kidnap and murder of his classmate from eighteen years ago.

Satoru alternates between his 29-year-old adult self and his 10-year-old child self while retaining his consciousness throughout the Revival. This anime resembles Oshi no Ko as in both series, the main characters undergo a mysterious change in their body and have to tackle a serious issue.

The story follows an atheist salaryman who gets reincarnated into a world ravaged by war as a baby as punishment for ridiculing the existence of God (who he refers to as Being X).

The identity he created in the new world is of the girl, Tanya Degurechaff, a sorcerer who is also a monster in the battlefield. She commands hundreds of soldiers while continuing to reject God. The two series are similar because both have main characters who get reincarnated into the body of an infant.

Mushoku Tensei is a really popular isekai anime that follows the main protagonist, a 34-year-old NEET who got into an accident, causing him to get reincarnated in the body of a young boy.

In this new world, he, who now identifies as Rudeus Greyrat, has decided to give life his all now that he has great looks, immense potential, and, most of all, a chance to restart. The two anime are similar because both feature protagonists who were reincarnated into the body of a baby with the memories intact.

Nana is an anime adapted from the popular manga by Ai Yazawa about two women, both named Nana. The story is concerned with their new lives, romantic interests, and their passionate approach towards music.

As their lives start in Tokyo, they slowly realize that the world isn’t what it seems to be, and they get hit hard in the face by the realities of the world.

This anime movie is perhaps one of the best psychological thriller anime out there and it also bears the most resemblance to Oshi no Ko. Based on the novel by Takeuchi Yoshikazu, Perfect Blue is a story about an Idol named Mima Kirigoe, who has dropped her job as a pop star to become an actress.

However, one day when many collaborators from her show start getting murdered, her life is turned horrific as she realizes that she was being stalked: both online and offline. The story shows much resemblance to Oshi no Ko as both shows depict people of the entertainment industry being subjected to horrific incidences.

About Oshi no Ko

Oshi no Ko is a supernatural crime-solving manga series written by Aka Akasaka and illustrated by Mengo Yokoyari. It has been serialized in Shueisha’s Weekly Young Jump since April 2020 and received an anime adaptation in 2023.

The story follows a doctor, Goro, reincarnated as his favorite idol Ai’s kid. Ai names him Aquamarine and his twin sister, a reincarnation of a patient at the hospital, Ruby. Ai is later killed by a stalker who was also responsible for Goro’s death. As Aquamarine swears revenge on the stalker for his mother’s demise, Ruby follows the same path as her mother to become an idol.
