The mysterious detective who became everyone’s beloved even before his appearance. One can’t simply resist his quirky behavior and unbeatable geniuses. His character was so well-written and charming that he even had fans rooting for him instead of Light.

He is actually an orphan who hides his sensitive side behind his uncaring exterior. Having been lonely most of his life, he was also beginning to find companionship with Light and Misa. He had a long life to live, but sadly, Light had other plans.

9. Lelouch vi Britannia (Code Geass)

This exiled Prince from Britannia who only wanted to ensure a better world for his sister definitely didn’t deserve the tragic fate. Lelouch became the wanted terrorist, Zero, and led a rebellion against his empire for the injustice Area 11 and his family were dealt with.

Behind his manipulative and cold personality, he is someone who genuinely cares for others. In the end, he became an enemy and selflessly sacrificed himself to unite the world against him and to ensure peace.

8. Genya Shinazugawa (Demon Slayer)

We can all admit that Genya was not our favorite character initially, but slowly, he grew up on us. His character development from being a disrespectful brat to a selfless person is commendable. Later on, he became one of the trusted friends of Tanjiro.

For all his life, he had only longed to reconcile with his estranged elder brother, for which he even joined the Demon Slayer Corps. He ultimately met his end by the Upper Moon, but we would’ve loved seeing the two brothers reunite and erase their differences.

7. Sasha Braus (Attack on Titan)

We all expected the lovable potato girl from Attack on Titan to live a happy life with her friends and lots of delicious food. But sadly, that didn’t happen, as she met a shocking demise in the final season. Sasha is a member of the Scout Regiment who is like a breath of fresh air among her other serious peers.

Despite her carefree attitude, she is shown to be a very skilled shooter capable of taking a courageous stance in need.  Her character deserved a lot better than an untimely and short death

6. Maes Hughes (Fullmetal Alchemist)

Maes Hughes was the doting family man and one of the respectable military officers from the Fullmetal Alchemist. Aside from his rightful bragging about his family, he was also a trusted person, always thinking about other’s well-being.

While his death was necessary to set the narrative in motion, it does not take away the fact that he had every right to live a happy life with his loved ones after suffering the trials and tribulations of Ishval.

5. Kaori Miyazono (Your Lie in April)

It was short, but it was beautiful while it lasted. Such are the words to describe the existence of Kaori Miyazono. She was a lovely soul beneath the pain of her illness who only wanted one more chance in life.

Her story with Arima was very beautiful, and fans were patiently waiting for the day when she would reveal her true feelings. The day came at the end, but sadly, it was too late. She came as a fresh breeze of air that changed the life of Arima, and so that is why it was more painful for both fans and Arima to bid her goodbye.

4. Aki Hayakawa (Chainsaw Man)

Aki Hayakawa is the Public Safety Devil Hunter tasked with caring for Denji and Power by Makima. He was quick to make a place in our hearts with his gentlemanly and caring attitude for his close ones.

During his lifetime, he suffered from many tragic losses, from his family to his close colleagues. His death was the worst one, as he died and got possessed by the devil he swore revenge on. He was the one character after Denji who deserved a peaceful life

3. Kento Nanami (Jujutsu Kaisen)

The ending that shattered the hearts of millions of fans. Fans of Jujutsu Kaisen know that the series does not shy away from tragic character ends. There is yet to be a character who has a happy ending.

Out of all the painful deaths so far, Nanami’s one was truly heartbreaking. The overworked ex-salaryman only wanted to live a normal life but was instead forced to bear the responsibility of Jujutsu Sorcerer. Fans will definitely agree that he deserved to live his dream life in Kuantan instead of dying the worst possible death.

2. Itachi Uchiha (Naruto)

A brother who stained his hands and bore the burden of betrayal deserved a better conclusion than a misunderstood villain. Itachi Uchiha took every action to prevent a war, but sadly, circumstances didn’t even allow him to live the peaceful life he’d envisioned for his village.

His whole life was caught in the perils of tough decisions and the atonement for his grave sins. The only reason he had been living was to be killed by Sasuke. The price he paid was not fair for his loyalty and good intentions.

1. Ash Lynx (Banana Fish)

The most gut-wrenching thing about Banana Fish, aside from its plot, was definitely Ash Lynx’s backstory. Ever since his childhood, he was forced to see and face only the ugliest facets of life. He was compelled to become a fearsome gang leader to survive.

When he was finally learning to find the meaning of his life, all thanks to Eiji, tragedy struck him in the worst way. He had just overcome the greatest evil and was about to reach his ‘happy ever after’ when it was cruelly snatched from him. Neither Ash nor Eiji deserved this ending.

So, these were the characters that were more than their terrible life and didn’t deserve the conclusion destiny had planned for them. If you think there are more such characters like them, feel free to let the world know about them.
