Loki actor Tom Hiddleston apparently gave the cast and crew members of his upcoming Marvel series lectures, explaining his character’s history. The God of Mischief made his debut in the MCU in 2011 as Thor’s brother and has lived in his shadow ever since. But with Marvel finally releasing his standalone show, the character is about to get his own spotlight.
Now with only a few days left until Loki’s debut, fans’ anticipation has never been higher. To sate some of that curiosity, a recent feature of Hiddleston in Emmy Magazine (via Twitter account @thelokinews) has reported some exciting news which includes Hiddleston’s great lengths at ensuring Loki was understood by the newer cast and crew members.
Not only did the actor help his co-star Owen Wilson get an understanding of Loki’s story, but he also gave a presentation to the crew departments. The series’ director Kate Herron even noted that “He prepared for it as though he were giving a lecture at Cambridge.”
This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise since Hiddleston attended the renowned university where he earned a double first in Classics before studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. But rather than sound overbearing or haughty, his lectures have seemed to be very charming, useful, and indicative of his longtime dedication to playing Loki.
Furthermore, considering Loki’s complicated trajectory in the MCU, it can get confusing for newcomers to the franchise. Thus Hiddleston’s efforts at recapping the God of Mischief’s narrative for the others were undoubtedly helpful.
Back in February, Wilson also revealed during an interview that when they began work on the show, Hiddleston gave him “Loki lectures,” which helped lay out the MCU’s history for the newcomer and understand the other story points in the franchise. Check out his statement below:
Actually, Tom Hiddleston — who of course plays Loki — he kind of — or we kind of — you know, they were almost like Loki lectures. And so he, for a couple days, walked me through everything and the whole lore and showing me clips from other movies and how it all fed into this story. So, it was really kind of Tom telling me about it and telling me about his character.

Moreover, for Hiddleston’s recent feature, Herron was kind enough to add:
Tom wanted to make sure that everyone had an idea of where Loki comes from and that everyone was on the same page, including the audience. He knows this character is beloved, and his arc is one of the best in the MCU. He wanted to show how we could build on that and pay respect and still give people something they’re not anticipating. He challenged everyone to rise to that level, and they did.
