After a five-year run, Ken Wakui’s widely-liked manga Tokyo Revengers is set to end on November 16, 2022, with the release of Chapter 278, which will be published in Kodansha’s Weekly Shounen Magazine issue 51.
Wakui announced the manga’s end via his official Twitter account in a post featuring an image with the words “Revenge Completed” in red. This was also confirmed in issue 47 of the Weekly Shounen Magazine.
The action manga entered its final arc in Chapter 208, with the final showdown between the protagonist Takemichi and deuteragonist Mikey beginning in Chapter 274. Wakui looks to tie up loose ends in this arc and grapple with previously unanswered questions.
The manga was first launched in Weekly Shounen Magazine in March 2017, and Kodansha published the manga’s 29th compiled volume book on August 17. Volume 30 of the manga will be published on November 17, 2022.
As of October 2022, Tokyo Revengers has sold over 65 million copies via its 29 tankouban volumes.
The manga’s plot as described by Kodansha USA Publishing is:
“Watching the news, Takemichi Hanagaki learns that his girlfriend from way back in middle school, Hinata Tachibana, has died. The only girlfriend he ever had was just killed by a villainous group known as the Tokyo Manji Gang.
He lives in a crappy apartment with thin walls, and his six-years-younger boss treats him like an idiot. Plus, he’s a complete and total virgin … At the height of his rock-bottom life, he suddenly time-leaps twelve years back to his middle school days!!
To save Hinata, and change the life he spent running away, hopeless part-timer Takemichi must aim for the top of Kanto’s most sinister delinquent gang!!”
Fans of the manga have more to look forward to even after the manga’s completion owing to the manga’s upcoming anime adaptations.
A second anime season based on the “Christmas Showdown Arc” is set to premiere in January 2023. A live-action adaptation also debuted back in 2021, with a sequel set to release in 2023.
