Tokyo Revengers Beats Demon Slayer: Manga Sales 6.7 Times Higher!

Tokyo Revengers has lately been a hit with shounen fans. Its protagonist Takemichi gets the rare opportunity to do something that we all wish to do in these awful times – going back to the good old days before 2020 ever happened!

On a serious note, Tokyo Revengers has been hailed as a masterpiece for its unique take on time travel, complex relationship, and a headstrong protagonist who has the power of friendship! 

Well, masterpiece may be too much, but the series must be pretty good because the numbers don’t lie.

The manga sales of Tokyo Revengers surged past Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba after its anime broadcast. 

Tokyo Revengers, which is serialized in the “Weekly shounen Manga” (Kodansha), has seen an enormous increase in sales in April. 

According to Kodansha’s estimation, the manga sales increased by 6.7 times after the anime aired. It is calculated that about 2.4 books were being sold every one second.

The latest figures of the manga show that there are about 14.5 million copies in circulation as of now. Since March, the manga has remained in the top 10 best sellers; however, in April, it was able to surge to the 2nd position beating Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba.

Such sales figures are considered a milestone in the industry, and the people involved are screaming with joy. Many are already considering the anime adaptation a success, even though season one is still airing!

Due to its success, the anime has added legions of fans to the series! Given the scenario and success of anime movies, Kodansha has announced a live-action adaptation of the manga that is set to hit theatres on 9th July. 

With the smashing hit anime, the surged sale of manga, and a live-action movie on the way, the Revenger fandom will have plenty to munch on!

Tokyo Revengers is a manga written and illustrated by Ken Wakui. It began serialization in Kodansha’s Weekly Shōnen Magazine on March 1, 2017, and ended its run in November 2022. It is compiled into 31 tankobon volumes.

The story revolves around Takemichi Hanagaki, who learned that Tokyo Manji Gang had killed his only ex-girlfriend from back in middle school. After learning about the incident, Takemichi was pushed from the railway platform.

Landing on the tracks, he closed his eyes, accepting his death, but when he opened his eyes, he had time-leaped 12 years into the past.
