Togashi’s Decision to Reveal the Ending of ‘Hunter×Hunter’ Haunts Fans

‘Hunter× Hunter’ has been under several hiatuses due to the author’s health issues, Togashi. The manga’s ongoing arc, the Succession Contest, has been running for nearly 10 years!

While the mangaka has been trying to release new chapters recently, the schedule has been inconsistent due to his chronic back pain. Togashi has decided to reveal unexpected information, and fans are going ballistic over the news.

“Hunter X Hunter” manga creator Yoshihiro Togashi revealed that he conceived four possible scenarios for ending the long-running manga. He then showed the fourth abandoned ending.

The mangaka specified that this was a backup plan in case of his untimely demise before he could finish the manga. According to Togashi, the ending goes like this:

“Years into the future, mirroring the beginning of the manga, we see a young girl, Jin, who captures a giant Lake Lord. However, unlike Gon, Jin captures this monster to get her mother to stop pressuring her into becoming a hunter.

The young girl explains that she could never live like her grandfather, Gon, and other Hunters since she does not want to make her loved ones wait. The ending also reveals that Gon has become a famous and robust hunter and is married to Noko, one of the few children who grew up with him.

The series then ends with a bird flying over different locations and shows many new characters who are most likely children or grandchildren of the series’ main characters.

Togashi also wants to create a satisfying ending. He believes readers’ reactions would be 80% positive on ending A, evenly split on ending B, and 90% negative on ending C.

Despite the overwhelming criticism he would receive from fans, Togashi personally preferred ending C out of the possible endings.

This sad decision of the author has dramatically saddened fans. This goes on to further highlight the direness of his situation. Fans also want nothing more than Togashi to be healthy and are expressing their concern. Fans also believe that the author is not obligated to reveal an ending if he passes away.
