Toei Cartoon Festival (Toei Manga Matsuri) is an event the children look forward to the most during their school vacations. With an exclusive line-up of new anime films and toys, the theatres are packed with excited kids.
Toei Animations introduced the festival back in 1969 to showcase popular children anime films during school vacations. The festival is famous for showcasing every Dragon Ball movie but one in their screenings.
The next Toei Manga Matsuri to be held in August 2021 will include the third installment of the Butt Detective anime movie franchise.
As absurd as its name is, the new anime film tells the tale of a notorious detective whose face is shaped like a butt. The character’s popularity among children has made Toei add the third film to the Toei Manga Matsuri omnibus film series.
The Toei Manga Matsuri omnibus film series returned after 29 years with its screening back in 2019. The April 2020 screening was delayed due to the Covid-19 situation and was rescheduled to August 2020.
The first and second installment of the Butt Detective film series was featured in 2019 and 2020, paving a way for the third one in 2021.
Each of the films in the Butt Detective (Oshiri Tantei) franchise has a unique storyline where a detective with a butt-shaped face is accompanied by his sidekick as he solves mysteries and fights crimes.
The Toei Manga Matsuri Omnibus film series event that started in 1969 ran for 21 years before stopping in 1990.
The festival is famous for showcasing anime movies including the Dragon Ball series. One screening also featured Disney movies like Snow White and 101 Dalmatians.
We hope the 2021 festival will be a joyful event for both the children and their parents alike and hope it maintains proper Covid-19 guidelines.
