Manga Productions, a subsidiary of the Prince Mohammed bin Salman Foundation, also known as MiSK, is the production house behind folktales converted into anime such as the Woodcutter’s Treasure. They aim to create media content to “promote Saudi ideas and messages internationally.”
In collaboration with Toei Animation, Manga Productions is launching an original anime TV series titled Future’s Folktales (Asatir: Mirai no Mukashibanashi). The show will premiere on 4th April and have a total of 13 episodes.
The show, set in 2050, revolves around a grandma telling her three grandchildren folktales from the Arabian Peninsula. Masako Nozawa will act as the grandma named Asmaa. Three grandchildren – Maha, Rayan, Sultan will be played by Naomi Ozora, Sachiko Kojima, and Megumi Urawa, respectively. The show will premiere on J Tele.
This anime is one of the two upcoming projects that Manga Productions is collaborating on with Toei Animation. The other is a 90 min film titled The Journey. An announcement went live in February that the movie has been finished. It will be released later this year.
