Timothée Chalamet embodies ‘the greatest inventor and maker of chocolates that there has ever been’ in new set photos.
With production underway in Oxford’s city centre, Chalamet was spotted filming alongside Calah Lane for the upcoming Charlie and the Chocolate Factory prequel film, Wonka.
Other on-set clips give a clear look at Chalamet’s gait as he walks around with the classic cane, wearing a top hat and velvet coat, playing a younger version of the beloved chocolatier, Willy Wonka from the Roald Dahl tale.
Filming took place at several locations like the Sheldonian Theatre, Radcliffe Square, and the Old Bodleian Library, and roads were also closed off. Besides Chalamet and Lane, Hugh Grant was also reportedly spotted on set.
This comes a few months after Chalamet revealed the first look at his character last October, donning an outfit inspired by Gene Wilder’s iconic look in 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.
Just recently, when Village Roadshow sued Warner Bros over the streaming release of The Matrix: Resurrections, the company detailed how WB had cut the company out totally from the production of ‘Wonka.’
Warner Bros. did this on the basis that Wonka is not a prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, despite it telling the backstory of the main character. By the looks of it, production wasn’t affected by this situation.
Paul King directs Wonka, with a stellar cast including Olivia Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Keegan-Michael Key, and Sally Hawkins.
Wonka is set for a theatrical release on March 17, 2023./serie
