“Mayor of Kingstown” Season 2 doesn’t start right after the events of the Season 1 finale, presenting a time jump offering a unique chance and perspective. Paramount+’s “Mayor of Kingstown” Season 2 starts sometime after the events of Mayor of Kingstown Season 1 finale.
Mike’s primary objective in Season 1 was keeping the hard-earned peace between the gangs. The central to the Mayor of Kingstown was Mike’s connection with Iris and his refusal to deal with Milo. Season 2 and its open war between all parties offer a more chaotic and different backdrop to the events in Mike’s life and the McLuskys in general.
The viewers might be confused regarding the time jump between the two seasons. Let’s dive into further details of the timeline.
The time jump between Mayor of Kingstown Season 1 and 2 is approximately one week. This was evident when Mike tells Bunny that he remembers the rooftop being Blood turf just one week ago.
Given this, it’s clear the turmoil and ongoing outside effects of the prison riot have been going on for at least a week. Although the “Mayor of Kingstown” time skip has likely taken slightly more than this.
Some other context clues shown during Mike’s work in “Mayor of Kingstown” Season 2 and the scenes involving other characters in the series are evidence of this.
The time jump of at least a week is also visible in how many procedures changed in Kingstown. Miriam is seen teaching her class of inmates in a different setting with armored officers present. The inmates are at the men’s prison living in tents outside.
All these point to it being more than a week since the events of the “Mayor of Kingstown” Season 1 finale, based on the time needed to set these things up. Iris and Mike’s less tentative relationship, Kyle’s shift towards another job, and Kareem’s reinstatement at the prison all support the idea that a week or more has passed, as those changes couldn’t have been instantaneous.
The time jump between the two seasons is a result of the prison riot and its after-effects in “Mayor of Kingstown” Season 1, episode 10. The show managed to keep a perilous peace between the gangs both inside and outside the penitentiary throughout the season.
But the events of Season 1 Episode 9 rapidly made a prison riot possible, ultimately destroying all the carefully cultivated balance in Kingstown. “Mayor of Kingstown” Season 2 takes place sometime after the prison riot is stopped.
Why is the Mayor of Kingstown’s time skip too short?
The period between the two seasons couldn’t have spanned months to portray the full brunt of the prison riots on the protagonists and the town.
We are all aware of how the riots and the way they were stopped caused a major imbalance among all the fractions at odds in Kingstown. Thus, it would have been less interesting to show what had happened in the town months after the dust had settled.
The shorter time jump between Season 1 and Season 2 offers a uniquely different situation for the crime drama’s characters to be in, promising them new challenges they could face in Season 1.
