Here are 3 DCU Films The Flash Contradicts with Time Travel

Ezra Miller appeared in several DCU films prior to his solo movie, The Flash. Both cuts of Justice League and Batman Vs. Superman featured the Scarlet Speedster, but only two of those films address his time-traveling abilities.

But even those two have different definitions of the same, and here’s why the upcoming film’s time travel theory contradicts these three DCU films.

We know from the film’s official synopsis and the recently released trailer that the 2023 film will follow Barry Allen returning to the past to save his mother, Nora Allen, on the night she was killed. But time travel has its fair share of consequences, leading to a Flash-point storyline where Flash finds himself with another Barry Allen.

But as Barry explained in the Snyder Cut of Justice League, when running at high speeds, time works differently around him, and he rewinds time rather than traveling through it. Which is why he appears in Batman VS Superman, it’s because he overshot in his calculations, arriving at a time before the Justice League was formed.

But the 2023 film’s time travel rules for interacting with someone are entirely different from the previously mentioned films. But this isn’t even the biggest problem with the upcoming movie retconning prior DCU films!

Snyder’s Justice League may be a part of the DCU, but the 2017 Justice League is canon in the DC universe. In the 2017 film, Barry doesn’t use his time travel powers, and the day is saved, nevertheless. But then the trailer for The Flash suggests that Bruce Wayne knows about his ability – but how?

An even bigger plot hole in this scenario is that Justice League (2017) suggests Barry is unaware of his time-bending powers. But if he were to consider rewinding time to undo his mother’s murder, how would that be possible if he didn’t know the full extent of his powers?

I’m hoping The Flash has answers for these inconsistencies across the DCU because if this isn’t fixed, the 2023 film retcons the concept of time travel discussed in the previous films. The Flash will be released in theaters worldwide on June 16, 2023.
