Zeus in ‘Thor 4’ Will Be Different than in ‘Zack Snyder’s JL’: Find out How

Thor: Love and Thunder‘s Russell Crowe has revealed that he’s playing Zeus within the MCU sequel. While speaking on a radio show in Australia, Crowe also noted that his Zeus was bound to vary from the Zeus delivered by Zack Snyder in the Snyder Cut.

With Crowe onboard as Zeus, which he made the planet aware of in such an off-the-cuff way, one wonders if Marvel Studios were okay with it. That said, the MCU did get beaten to the punch by Zeus’ recent appearance in DC’s movie universe via Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

In Greek mythology, Zeus is that the god of the sky and thunder, making total sense to form his MCU debut during a Thor movie. Thor is, after all, the god of lightning and thunder in Norse mythology and is portrayed intrinsically within the MCU also. Thereupon in mind, it’ll be interesting to ascertain how Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Russell Crowe’s Zeus get along or perhaps don’t, thanks to their similarities.

How the plot will accommodate Zeus has many theories, one of which is the entry of Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher in Thor 4, known to decimate gods. Gorr could incite Zeus’ famous thunderous rage with his attacks against the big wigs of heaven.

While it’s unclear exactly how Russell Crowe’s Zeus will be portrayed in the movie, traditional Marvel lore refers to Zeus’ kind as a humanoid race called Olympians and states that they originate from an alternate dimension called Olympus.

On the surface, Snyder Cut‘s Zeus and Marvel’s Zeus seem pretty similar, although one difference will be in appearance. DCEU Zeus actor Sergi Constance might be a shredded 32-year-old bodybuilder, while Russell Crowe is nearing 60 and is hardly known for having a Herculean physique at this stage of his career.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League wasn’t Zeus’ introduction within the DCEU, although it’d be his most noteworthy. Within the Snyder Cut, Zeus led a coalition of races into battle against Darkseid and managed to defeat the compelling villain. In Wonder Woman, though, it had been revealed that Zeus had fathered Diana, also the film’s villain Ares, besides personally creating humanity. Shazam! also confirmed that Zeus’ mythological half-human/half-god son Hercules exists within the DCEU.

Marvel’s Zeus also doesn’t seem to possess any familial ties to any of the MCU’s current heroes. It is vital to notice that Zeus isn’t always depicted as the most incredible guy in Greek mythology, and it’s pretty possible that Crowe (who has much experience playing bad guys) will play a wrathful Zeus. If that is the case, he might do the other Justice League‘s Zeus in Thor: Love and Thunder and be an evil force humanity has got to fear.

This suggests that Crowe’s Zeus will be an older and perhaps wiser version, like Anthony Hopkins’ aging Odin. Zeus and Odin are generally portrayed as being at about an equivalent power level in Marvel Comics, so this move is sensible.

Marvel’s comic history includes names like Thor, Loki, Odin, Asgard, and such, that are indeed rooted in Norse mythology and a world far away from the Greek pantheon of gods.

However, Marvel is known to feature differing mythologies crossing paths repeatedly over the years. Meanwhile, fans are also looking forward to finding out if his son Hercules will show up within the MCU.

About Thor: Love and Thunder

Thor: Love and Thunder is a MCU movie and the fourth installation in the Thor series. It is directed by Ragnarok’s director, Taika Waititi, and will show Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman reprising their roles as Thor Odinson and Dr. Jane Foster.

The movie will be based on The Mighty Thor comics in which Thor Odinson loses the ability to lift Mjolnir, and Jane Foster takes on the role of Mighty Thor. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor teams up with The Guardians of the Galaxy for a short time, leaving Valkyrie as the ruler of New Asgard. But Thor returns to team up with Korg, Valkyrie and Jane’s Mighty Thor to take down Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) – before he takes out all the gods in existence.

Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson return for Watiti’s second go, while Russell Crowe and Natalie Portaman join Taika’s project for the first time. The movie is out on July 8, 2022.
