Thorne Explains How Black Panther 2 Will Impact MCU’s Ironheart

Dominique Thorne explains how the events of Black Panther 2 changed her character, Riri Williams and how this will impact her life in the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart.

Thorne makes her first appearance as Riri Williams aka Ironheart in the MCU’s latest theatrical release, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Just like in the comics, Riri is introduced as a bright 19-year-old genius student at MIT. She grabs attention by building a suit similar to Iron Man’s suit for herself.

Riri is forced to get involved in the political conflict between Wakanda and Talokan, which helps her realize her worth in the world of the MCU. The events of Wakanda Forever leave a deep impact on Riri and change her worldview forever.

Riri discovers a hidden underwater kingdom called Wakanda, works with the new Black Panther, Shuri and uses her technologically advanced armor to fight the war. All of this has a large impact on her personality, which we’ll see more of in the upcoming Disney+ series, Ironheart.

In an interview with Screenrant, the Ironheart actress explains how the events of Black Panther 2 shape her character in Ironheart. After being dragged in the midst of a political conflict, Riri is forced to realize her true potential and face the world in a way she never thought of before.

Check out the entire statement below –

“It’s definitely a question that’s best answered by coming over to the series next year, but I definitely think that a lot of what we see with Riri in particular, in Wakanda Forever, is the beginning of her having to reckon with this ambition of hers and really start to understand what it might mean.

I think that up until that point, and as it’s hinted in the show, she’s moving through MIT. She’s got her own little side business going, making a deal over there until she has a reason to look up quite literally and see these larger worlds that are in front of her that she now has no choice but to face. I think that sort of confrontation of nothing but her own brilliance and her own genius is a very exciting thing in itself. I think that, if folks were intrigued enough by that, they might find satisfaction over at the series next year too.”

The events of Black Panther 2 will definitely leave a lasting impact on Riri and shape her journey in Ironheart. The conflict of Wakanda Forever helps Riri realize her worth and understand her true potential. This helps set up her character for bigger things and more magical adventures in the upcoming Disney+ series.

Riri Williams in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The MCU is portraying Riri Williams as Iron Man’s successor. In the comics, Tony Stark is Riri William’s mentor. However, he died in Avengers: Endgame so it is likely that Shuri will replace Iron Man as Riri’s potential mentor.

Riri shares many similarities with Tony Stark, including their affinity for technology, skills as an engineer and intelligence. However, their backgrounds, personalities and worldviews are completely different. It will be interesting to see how the MCU shapes Ironheart as Iron Man’s successor.

Riri Williams will definitely play a significant role in future projects of the MCU. Considering she will explore more magic and technology in Ironheart, she might prove to be an important addition to the team of Young Avengers.

Ironheart premieres on Disney+ in 2023.
