Did you spot a Thor: Love and Thunder Easter Egg in Spider-Man: No Way Home? If not, you certainly missed catching which new character (or, should I say god?) will be introduced into the MCU.
With all things Marvel, your motto should be “constant vigilance.” Following this instinct, a Reddit user found a small teaser for what’s to come in Thor 4.
During one of the news broadcasts scenes in NWH, the scrolling banner at the bottom talks about “political turmoil being cause in New Asgard. The banner/scene cuts off before we can get the full name of the culprit. But hey, they do show us that the name starts with a “Z” … any guesses?
If you rack your brains for any gods whose names start with Z, your first response is going to be Zeus. You’re not wrong!
In fact, it has been confirmed that Russell Crowe was indeed cast as Zeus for Thor 4.
His appearance has been categorized as a cameo. But from the NWH teaser, it seems like his small role will have big repercussions, Zeus-style.
A running theory is that since Christian Bale’s Gorr the God Butcher is out and about killing all types of gods, Zeus manages to escape to New Asgard.
While he could be here to warn the Asgardians, the “turmoil” could point to him wanting to strike an alliance to save his own kingdom. Valkyrie having to make this decision could cause a political conflict.
Zeus’ appearance also opens up doors for other (Marvel) Geek gods, in particular, the fan-beloved Hercules. Introducing yet another half-god with daddy issues? Yes, that sounds in line with the Thor movies.
Hercules is a significant part of the Avenger in the comics. As we know, Marvel is setting up the new Avengers crew, so ushering Hercules in using a Zeus cameo to is a nice way to do it!
But with Thor: Love and Thunder’s release being far away in July 2022, it’s going to be a while before our theories are confirmed. Sit tight!
