Chris Hemsworth’s Thor has had a complicated history in the MCU. Since Thor’s debut on the big screen, he has lost his parents, brother, and closest friends. Following the events of Avengers: Infinity War, Thor has been reeling with the grief of failing to defeat Thanos.
Thor: Love and Thunder begins with Thor’s journey of self-discovery and weight loss following these years of losses and victories.
As Thor returns to New Asgard following his cosmic adventures with the Guardians of the Galaxy, he will reunite with old friends Valkyrie and Korg. He will also come across ex-girlfriend Jane Foster, who is now the Mighty Thor and wields his old hammer, Mjolnir.
In a new video with Entertainment Tonight, director Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth take fans on a tour of the Love and Thunder set, showing off a bit of New Asgard.
While Thanos may have horribly traumatized the universe with the snap of his fingers in Avengers: Infinity War, erasing half the population, people have come up with interesting ways to cope with the trauma.
In Thor: Love and Thunder, an ice cream shop based on Thanos appears as a highlight of the New Asgard.
In the video, the director points out an ice cream parlor called ‘Infinity Conez’, which features Thanos’ Infinity Gauntlet atop a giant ice cream cone with candies that represent the six Infinity Stones.
He even jokes that the shop might make it to the real world.
Read his quote below:
“As you can see here, a little special invention just for the film, which I have heard on quite good, know that it’s going to make it into real life one day, is this is cream shop here called ‘Infinity Conez’. So, keep an eye out for that.”
Having an ice cream shop dedicated to Thanos seems odd given the atrocities Thanos has caused to the entire universe, specifically to the Asgardians, on his quest for the Infinity Stones.
However, grief and trauma are processed differently by everyone.
It is possible the shop has been made by Asgardians in bad taste. It is also possible there are more details like this in the movie, but let’s face it—an ice cream shop themed after Thanos does sound pretty cool.
Also, given Waititi’s penchant for humor, the shop seems to fit right in with his filmmaking style. Whether the shop plays any role in the plot remains unclear as of now.
Fans can watch all the mysteries unfold for themselves when Thor: Love and Thunder releases in theaters this Friday.
About Thor: Love and Thunder
Thor: Love and Thunder is a MCU movie and the fourth installation in the Thor series. It is directed by Ragnarok’s director, Taika Waititi, and will show Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman reprising their roles as Thor Odinson and Dr. Jane Foster.
The movie will be based on The Mighty Thor comics in which Thor Odinson loses the ability to lift Mjolnir, and Jane Foster takes on the role of Mighty Thor. After the events of Avengers: Endgame, Thor teams up with The Guardians of the Galaxy for a short time, leaving Valkyrie as the ruler of New Asgard. But Thor returns to team up with Korg, Valkyrie and Jane’s Mighty Thor to take down Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale) – before he takes out all the gods in existence.
Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson return for Watiti’s second go, while Russell Crowe and Natalie Portaman join Taika’s project for the first time. The movie is out on July 8, 2022.
