Come here, Geralt. Pain we endure, sub-standard weaponry we do not.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has been an RPG staple ever since its launch in 2015 and fans have been steadily adding to the game’s mod library. But things may have just peaked on that front: a new mod by YouTuber Dmitri Games Studio brings Kratos’ new (and now iconic) Leviathan Axe to Geralt’s arsenal.
When God of War dropped in 2018, developers Santa Monica Studio traded in Kratos’ legendary Blades of Chaos for the high-powered Leviathan Axe as the Ghost of Sparta’s primary weapon.
The Axe came with runic powers, ice damage, and the ability to fly back to the player’s hands (shoutout to Mjolnir) when called. Bringing a new weapon to one of the most popular games of all time and, thus, significantly changing its combat mechanics was a risky move. But the developers did a great job of it, making the Leviathan Axe one of the coolest weapons in recent gaming memory.
The Witcher 3 lets players use a few other weapons apart from the standard set of swords, like axes and maces, but none of them hold a candle to Leviathan so this should definitely allow players to be a little more creative with their attacks. And what’s great about the mod is that it lets you equip Leviathan in the steel sword slot and has the same functionality and animations as the regular swords in the game, so it should be easy for players to familiarise themselves with it.
But what is unfortunate about the mod is that it seems more focused on aesthetics rather than actual combat. In the video linked below, we don’t see Geralt throwing the Axe so it’s possible that the mod doesn’t bring Leviathan’s mythical abilities to The Witcher.
It also seems to lack frost damage so there’s no freezing monsters to death. However, there’s no denying that the Axe makes for one stylish addition to Geralt’s armory.
If you’re looking to do some Leviathan swinging of your own, you can download the mod from its Nexus Mods page. The mod is compatible with New Game Plus and can be unlocked from one of three locations: the blacksmith Hattori in Novigrad, the Ofieri Merchant, and Lazare Lafargue’s workshop in Toussaint.
About The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Developed and published by CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3 is an action role playing game. Its plot is based on the work of renowned author Andrzej Sapowski.
The game offers a breathtaking open world gameplay from a third person point of view.
The game takes players to a fantastical medieval world brimming with mythical beasts and creatures like Elves, Werewolves, Djinn and Golem etc.
The plot of the game revolves around Geralt of Rivia who is trusted by Emperor Emphyr to find his daughter, Ciri.
Ciri is the last inheritor to a primeval elder bloodline who has the ability to manipulate space and time.
Thus, in order to look for Ciri, Geralt goes on a quest crowded with missions and complex decision making. The best feature of The Witcher 3 is that the choices a player makes determine the outcome of the game.
The storyline presents itself with such complicated characters where one has to choose the lesser of two evils. Thus, it’s a game that doesn’t totally rely on brawn but brain too.
After finding Ciri, Geralt further helps her fight the king of the Wild Hunt, Eredin who wants to use Ciri’s power to take over the entire continent.
The ending of this game totally depends on the choices users make throughout the game. Therefore, it varies and can end either on a positive or a negative note.
