Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the official anime adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, was released in September. The show is set in Night City and features different characters from the game. After the tremendous success of the first season, fans had been begging the studio for a continuation.
CD Projekt Red confirmed there are currently no plans for a second season of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners.
CD Projekt Red’s Japan Country Manager Satoru Honma stated that the original plan for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was that it would be a “standalone work.” He went on to say that fans should forget about season two right now but mentioned that he would like to create more anime adaptations in the future.
Fans were skeptical of how the anime would turn out after V was replaced as the protagonist. However, it received positive reviews, even getting some of Netflix’s highest audience scores ever.
Edgerunners follows a young David Martinez who becomes a Cyberpunk after the death of his mother. Even though the show focuses on several protagonists, it managed to wrap up their stories within the first season.
Fans suggested the show could continue the narrative through Cyberpunk 2077 mods, even exploring more of Lucy’s character arc.
Contrary to popular rumors, CD Projekt Red will be releasing only one DLC expansion for Cyberpunk 2077– Phantom Library. Although fans are excited to see V and Johny in action once again, the news did disappoint those who had hoped for similar DLC releases like The Witcher 3. Phantom Library is scheduled to launch in 2023.
