The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt recently went on to become the best rated RPG on PS5 after the launch of its next-gen upgrade. Fans could see that a similar feat on Xbox consoles was not too far away.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt surpassed God of War: Ragnarok to become the second highest-rated PS5 game of 2022.
The PS5 version of The Witcher 3 has a higher Metacritic score of 96 than God of War: Ragnarok (94). However, fans have argued that the comparison does not make sense since Ragnarok is just over a month old and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is a rework of a game that has been around for years.
God of War: Ragnarok also has 141 critic reviews on Metacritic while The Witcher 3 only has 24 reviews for its PS5 version. As more and more reviews get listed, the final rating may be affected. So, who knows what rating The Witcher 3 finally receives?
Both God of War: Ragnarok and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt are two of the most critically acclaimed modern games. It is still a wonder to see such high review scores.
The Witcher 3’s current Metacritic score is also higher than the original 2015 which only had 92 for the PlayStation 4 version. Elden Ring has a score of 96 on Metacritic. So, it is quite surprising to see that an older game has outdone one of the biggest releases of 2022.
The Witcher 3’s glorious achievement was only made possible due to the evident hard work and dedication of the team at CD Projekt Red. The next-gen upgrade has added support for ray tracing on consoles, and an exclusive gameplay mode offering 60 FPS. Other features include different camera angles, the ability to cast Signs, a new Ultra+ setting for PC, and more.
Regardless of its high Metacritic score, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will not be eligible for some end-of-the-year awards since it is a much older game, having been released in 2015. Elden Ring will be known as the highest-rated game of 2022, as evident by its multiple Game of the Year awards.
About The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Developed and published by CD Projekt Red, The Witcher 3 is an action role playing game. Its plot is based on the work of renowned author Andrzej Sapowski.
The game offers a breathtaking open world gameplay from a third person point of view.
The game takes players to a fantastical medieval world brimming with mythical beasts and creatures like Elves, Werewolves, Djinn and Golem etc.
The plot of the game revolves around Geralt of Rivia who is trusted by Emperor Emphyr to find his daughter, Ciri.
Ciri is the last inheritor to a primeval elder bloodline who has the ability to manipulate space and time.
Thus, in order to look for Ciri, Geralt goes on a quest crowded with missions and complex decision making. The best feature of The Witcher 3 is that the choices a player makes determine the outcome of the game.
The storyline presents itself with such complicated characters where one has to choose the lesser of two evils. Thus, it’s a game that doesn’t totally rely on brawn but brain too.
After finding Ciri, Geralt further helps her fight the king of the Wild Hunt, Eredin who wants to use Ciri’s power to take over the entire continent.
The ending of this game totally depends on the choices users make throughout the game. Therefore, it varies and can end either on a positive or a negative note.
