“The Wire” Gets a Thumbs Up from Stephen King 15 Years After Series Finale

The king of horror and the most adapted author of all time is just a human being like us. Do you know why I say that? Because, like us, he caves to the occasional binge and watches a five-season show just to immediately go to Twitter and rave about it. Stephen King watched The Wire and went on the social media platform to show appreciation for it – 15 years after it ended.

The author, who’s given us films like Carrie, It, The Shining, and more, has given his followers several films and show recommendations on Twitter. This Sunday, he dropped in a short tweet, stating there’s “nothing better” than The Wire. Here’s his tweet for you to see:

The Wire differs from other reviews he’s left since it falls in a different genre altogether, but if a renowned author says there’s “nothing better,” we should listen. The show, written by David Simon, was loosely based on real events in Baltimore, which he, a former police reporter, and his writing partner Ed Burns, a former homicide detective, watched unfold in real-time.

The Wire, Episode “The Target”

The show first premiered on HBO in June 2022 and ran for five seasons consisting of 60 episodes, not only exploring crime and corruption but also touching upon inequality, racism, poverty, and more.

Each season of the show focused on one sector of the city, from the drug trade and port system to education and media and how each tied with law enforcement. The show stars some talented actors, including Dominic West, Lance Reddick, Idris Elba, Wendell Pierce, Sonja Sohn, John Doman, Dierdre Lovejoy, Seth William, Clarke Peters, and more.

The creators’ authenticity gave the show a surreal and interesting angle, which is only one of the reasons for its popularity. People, and Stephen King, are still appreciating the glory of the HBO original long after it ended in 2008.

It’s a shame genius goes underappreciated in its time, and we didn’t have more seasons of one of the greatest TV shows ever. Nevertheless, it’s got the stamp of Approval from King, so more people might join the underground fandom. Have you watched it? If not, binge it this week and tell us what you think about it in the comments.
