Mike White’s HBO Original, The White Lotus, quickly climbed through the charts to become one of the most viewed shows on the streaming platform. Two grand seasons have been shot in Hawaii and Italy, and according to several sources close to the season 3 production, the upcoming season will be set in Thailand.
Variety brings in this report after confirming Mike White has been spending time in Thailand scoping out possible location sites for his next instalment of the black comedy-drama. The previous two seasons used the Four Seasons of Hawaii and Italy as their set, but the Thailand choice comes with a twist.
The Asian country has four of these resorts set in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Koh Samui, and the Golden Triangle, each with a different setting for Mike White to choose from. So, depending on the particular Four Seasons the creator chooses, the upcoming season of The White Lotus could be set in the city, country, jungle, or beach.
The only information the audience has about The White Lotus season 3 is that Mike White wants to explore “death and Eastern Religion and spirituality.” You can read his full comment below:
The first season kind of highlighted money, and then the second season is sex. I think the third season would be maybe a satirical and funny look at death and Eastern religion and spirituality. It feels like it could be a rich tapestry to do another round at White Lotus.
Considering his previous statement and Variety’s report placing him in Thailand, I can confidently say that the White Lotus creator has found his next shooting location.
But apart from that, we don’t know anything about season 3. Jennifer Coolidge, who has been something of a constant in the HBO production, was killed off in season 2, so she won’t be visiting the next White Lotus resort.
Based on previous patterns, we can expect a star-studded cast this time around as well, though no official cast listings have shown up. To surmise, the production has kept season 3’s activities on the down-low, which only raises the expectations to higher standards.
Even though Mike White has not chosen his guests for the latest season, he has shown interest in bringing back Coolidge in some capacity – no promises. Other celebrities like Jennifer Aniston, Hayden Panettiere, Bette Midler, and Pamela Anderson have shown an interest in being selected for the wild ride the next season is ensured to be.
