A new image from The Conjuring 3 shows the Warrens involved with a demonically possessed child. The horror franchise, which began with 2013’s The Conjuring, starred Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga as the paranormal investigator couple. Directed by James Wan, the movie was incredibly successful and spawned an entire franchise. The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It will be released on June 4 in theatres and streaming service HBO Max simultaneously.
With less than a month to go for the third film’s release in the Conjuring series, promotions for the movie are in full swing. Among them is the exclusive image shared with Screen Rant by Warner Bros. Pictures, which teases the Warrens’ investigation will cover the demonic possession of David Glatzel (Julian Hilliard).
As the story goes, in 1981, 11-year-old Glatzel had played host to a demonic entity, which later passed onto Arne Johnson (Ruairi O’Connor). The picture shows Ed and Lorraine look on horrified as the boy bends inhumanely backwards during his possession.
While a trailer from April hinted at the upcoming movie being the Warrens’ most frightening case, the image provides a better look at what’s to follow. Since with every investigation, Lorraine seems to become more vulnerable, a case featuring a dangerous possession could be life-changing for her and the franchise as well.
So far, the Conjuring universe has amassed a lot of success and comes as the second highest-grossing series in the horror genre, following Godzilla. Although James Wan has not directed this one, he remained involved as one of the writers and producers.
Wan returned for The Conjuring 2 in 2016, which focused on the 1977 Enfield poltergeist case in London while touching on the Amityville murders briefly. The third film is directed by Michael Chaves, the director of 2019’s The Curse of La Llorona.
Wilson and Farmiga will both reprise their roles, and the movie will follow the actual trial of Arne Cheyenne Johnson, who pled not guilty in the murder of his neighbor under the claim of demonic possession.
