A proactive leaker community is definitely what fans of a game need to keep life interesting. It might be difficult to distinguish between fake and real leaks, but now it seems like there’s a concept for “The Veil”, supporting leaks for the next expansion.
The next major expansion after Lightfall – “The Final Shape,” is doing rounds of the internet despite being roughly a year away.
A leak before Lightfall by “Liz” (a prominent leaker in the Destiny 2 community) says the new destination will be inside the portal In the Traveler. The description on Veil released a day ago says, “window into the mind and memory of the universe”.
Albeit farfetched, stringing these two pieces of theory together, it could be that old destinations, landmarks, and past characters would appear connected by “memory”, giving a fuzzy feeling of reliving our memories of the Destiny Universe, right up till Destiny 1.
Bungie is beating around the bush about The Veil with no clear official statement on the purpose of the object and the reason behind its unique design.
Liz’s leak set the roadmap out for the fans. It includes the possible new location coming inside the Final Shape, which will be located inside the Portal opened by “The Witness” at Lightfall’s campaign closing.
Liz has also mentioned that of the many landmarks that would be contained in it, it could also contain a Dreadnaught landmark in memory of the “The Taken King” expansion.
This would make even more sense, given Bungie’s comments. Earlier this year, they mentioned that “The Final Shape” would mark the end of the Light and Darkness Saga, which has been running since the game’s launch in 2014.
All this remains speculative for the time being and until further lore is uncovered, it will be quite difficult to comment on the purpose or the future of The Veil. It would give the fans something to think about over the ensuing year and await more leaks.
