The Tatami Galaxy Novel Sequel to Release on July 29

Many of us reminiscence about our past. We look back at our former decisions, and daydream of newer and better possibilities had we chosen a different path.

Yet, few of us realize that the romanticized future might turn out as bleak as the current reality. The Tatami Galaxy novel deals with such a blend of past and future.

The Tatami Galaxy novel was written by Tomihiko Morimi and published in December 2004. After 16 long years, a sequel of the novel is set to be launched.

The sequel is titled Yojohan Time Machine Blues. It is written by Tomohiko Morimi and is inspired by a stage play “Summer Time Machine Blues” by Makoto Ueda.

Kadokawa is offering the novel for purchase. It will be released on July 29.

The sequel will have recurring characters as The Tatami Galaxy with adapted plot concepts from “Summer Time Machine Blues. “The novel’s cover is illustrated by the original character designer of The Tatami Galaxy, Yusuke Nakamura.

The Tatami Galaxy also inspired an 11 episode anime, which was produced by Madhouse. It was aired in April 2010 on Fuji TV’s Noitamina and streamed in North America by Funimation.

The story of Yojohan Time Machine Blues spurs on when Ozu, a friend of the unnamed protagonist, breaks the remote control of the only air conditioner in the student’s dormitory during sultry summer noon.

An unknown person from 25 years in the future appears while the protagonist is sent to the past to retrieve the remote in a working condition. Will the future change after the past is meddled with?

The sequel deals with time travel, which is similar to the first work. However, the two are different as the first deals with the solo desires of the protagonist. In contrast, the sequel deals with a group of students and an adventure that follows.

The Tatami Galaxy is a novel by Tomohiko Morimi and was published in December 2004. It was adapted into an anime series by studio Madbones in 2010.

The plot deals with an unnamed protagonist who daydreams of a different possibility had he chosen a different circle in college. The plot repeats as he joins an idealized club but ends up disillusioned. The story is rewinded, and the protagonist gets to try another club/circle just to reach the same conclusion.
