The Boys is back with a third season and within the opening scenes itself, there’s one major cameo to look forward to. If you’ve watched Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, this one’s going to be even more exciting for you!
The opening moments of season 3 feature a cameo of Charlize Theron, who plays Stormfront in the series. Theron also recently made her MCU debut as Clea in the mid-credit scene of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
This batch of episodes of the Boys attempts to parody Batman Vs Superman Dawn of Justice. In the season, Vought releases Dawn of the Seven featuring the titular heroes. We see most of the members of the Seven appearing as themselves, with the exception of Stormfront (considering how season 2 ended).
So, Charlize Theron is now Clea in the MCU and Stormfront in The Boys. As for her future in the MCU, it does seem like she is here to stay as of now.
Coming back to The Boys, the film Dawn of the Seven is an Avengers style super-hero multistarrer, starring Vought’s premier team. Apparently, the film had to go through some extensive reshoots to incorporate Homelander’s romance with Nazi supe Stormfront in season 2.
These reshoots enable The Boys to parody and ridicule both DCEU and Star Wars. According to creator of The Boys, Erik Kripke, the film is like an easter egg for the fans, but it also helps in resetting the story and serves as a recap of season 2.
You can see how Vought rewrote Stormfront’s story but it reminded everyone how Homelander and her had a thing. As per season 2 of The Boys, Homelander did not mind Stormfront’s ideology and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.
Ultimately, Stormfront was taken down by Starlight, Queen Maeve and Kimiko with help from Ryan aka Homelander’s son. However, in the film, Homelander seems to be doing the ‘right’ thing quite happily and helping bring down Stormfront.
In the film, Stormfront is played by Charlize Theron, unlike other characters who are played by themselves. This is an interesting choice and makes you think if it has a connection with MCU’s introduction of Clea. However, according to Kripke himself, it was pure coincidence.
About The Boys
The Boys is an American satirical superhero streaming television series developed by Eric Kripke for Prime Video. Based on the comic book of the same name by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, which was originally published by DC Comics under their Wildstorm imprint before moving to Dynamite Entertainment, it follows the eponymous team of vigilantes as they combat superpowered individuals who abuse their abilities.
The show is a satirical take on the superhero genre and showcases a world where superheroes are corporatized and controlled by companies. What happens when these superheroes step out of line and rub some boys the wrong way, is the story.
