Stephen King fans have a new reason to rejoice! The Stand, one of the mystery writer’s best novels, is being adapted to a miniseries that will release later this year. If that is not enough, another Skarsgard brother is set to play the villain of the series. The announcement was made by CBS All Access in the New York Comic-Con, which has been revealing details about fan-favorite shows and new upcoming shows for the past few days.
The Stand tells the story of a world destroyed by a deadly virus, leaving only a few survivors. As the remaining few try to re-establish a society, a struggle between good and evil ensues. Given its eerily relevant storyline, the series might hit the viewers hard.
However, the last Stephen King book to screen production, In The Tall Grass, released on Netflix to mixed reviews. The narrative lacked elements and the whole movie seemed to be stretched too much. Hopefully, a miniseries will be able to capture The Stand’s post-apocalyptic horror better.
The series boasts of a stellar cast with Whoopi Goldberg leading the ensemble. After Bill Skarsgard’s chilling portrayal of the demonic clown Pennywise, one of his brothers is taking up the mantle of portraying a Stephen King villain on-screen – Alexander Skarsgard will play Randall Flagg, the Dark Man in The Stand. The cast also includes James Marsden, Odessa Young, Nat Wolff and Katherine McNamara.
The first episode of the nine-part miniseries will drop on December 17th, on CBS All Access. The other episodes will drop every Thursday in the following weeks.

About The Stand
When a deadly disease wipes out most of the human civilization, it is up to the survivors to rebuild a society once more. But they have to choose a side in an intense tussle of morality. Will they choose the 108-year-old delicate matriarch Mother Abagail or side with the nightmarish Randall Flagg?
The Stand is based on the Stephen King novel of the same name. The novel was published in 1978 and is one of the first books that the prolific author wrote.
