Waylon Smithers To Get A New Boyfriend In The Simpsons Season 33

Waylon Smithers is getting a new boyfriend in The Simpsons season 33 after crushing on his boss, Mr. Burns, for the longest time.

The new clip shared by EW is from the upcoming episode titled Portrait of a Lackey on Fire. It shows a meet-cute with Smithers and his new flame Michael De Graaf, a billionaire fashion designer and America’s Got Fabric judge, voiced by Alias alum Victor Garber.

Airing on November 21, the episode promises a blissful relationship and will “truly puts the hearts in Smithers’ eyes: he finds himself swept away by Michael, and the two form a promising power couple.”

Executive producer Matt Selman talked to EW about the character and what makes him a good match for Smithers,

He’s charming and down to earth, and he loves that Smithers isn’t using him to get ahead in the fashion world. Smithers doesn’t know anything about fashion. Smithers is a smart, hardworking, intelligent guy. Michael is tired of people from the New York fashion scene where everyone has an agenda. He wants that middle-America regular guy who isn’t about status and fashion stuff.

Previously, in season 27, Smithers had another love interest, Julio. However, as Mr. Burns still had him whipped, that fling didn’t work out. Now that it feels like Smithers has finally moved on, Michael has arrived just in time.

We thought, ‘His love life is kind of a blank slate at this point. The show has moved away from him being completely obsessed with Mr. Burns all the time. So it feels a little bit like Smithers is like, ‘Who am I going to be with?’

It’d be interesting to see how this relationship works out, as this seems like a real shot at love for Smithers.

The Simpsons airs Sundays at 8 PM on FOX, with ‘Portrait of a Lackey on Fire’ premiering on November 21.
