17 Years Ago, The Simpsons Predicted Matrix 4’s Christmas Release!

The Simpsons have done it again! Infamous for scenes foretelling future events, a fan has spotted that the show predicted The Matrix 4 would release in December.

Now, the scene is from The Simpsons season 15, episode 14, which aired in March 2004. That’s 17 whole years before the release of Matrix 4! Have a look:

For context: Homer and the kids are at the movies. One of the many “Coming Soon” posters in the background happens to be of the Matrix, featuring Neo in his iconic pose with his sniper, upgraded with a Santa hat, and the neon green number rain in the background.

It almost seems bizarre that the show could make yet another accurate prediction! Should we be watching The Simpsons more carefully to prepare for the future?

There are plenty of conspiracy theories about how The Simpsons always get it right.

But the skeptic in me also knows that this is nothing but a happy coincidence — The last of the Matrix movies, Revolutions, had been released in November 2003, only a few months before this Simpsons episode.

Given that the franchise was immensely popular, this little poster could simply be a fan tribute to the same. Or, it could be a friendly dig at the studios trying to wring more revenue out of the Matrix franchise by making a fourth movie despite improbable circumstances like Neo and Trinity dying.

(Oh wait…)

Nonetheless, with The Matrix: Resurrections having released only a few days ago, I have to admit it is a super cool Easter egg to spot.

As for Matrix 4 itself — Yes, Neo and Trinity do return from the Machine War after almost two decades. But you won’t find the answers to how or why in any Simpsons episode.
